My Girlfriend's Boyfriend New Wave Dynamics Read More Comedy I've previously been a fan of Gary Gulman's comedy album No Can Defend (the title is a reference to Mr. Miyagi from the Karate Kid), so I was more than happy to check out his latest… Mike Birbiglia is probably best known for his award-winning off-Broadway hits Sleepwalk with Me (2008, but Birbiglia also starred and directed a featured film adaption in 2011). With the release of My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, which came out November 25, 2013, New Wave Dynamics captured one of Birbiglia one-man hour long soliloquy of his heartwarming journey to find true love. There are some very funny moments, like how he met his girlfriend's boyfriend, but the majority of this stand-up is Birbiglia's biography. I didn't need look up to see if this was all true, because I felt that what Birbiglia told us was from his heart and I believed everything that came out of the man's mouth (including him throwing up at "The Scrambler"). If you are currently in love or have found love, you will laugh and cry and laugh to Mike Birbiglia's My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, however if you are currently in the "non-make-out club", then you may want to look elsewhere because you will not be able to relate to anything Birbiglia say. My Girlfriend's Boyfriend is available now on CD and DVD via New Wave Dynamics. Like Sleepwalk with Me, look for the movie adaption of My Girlfriend's Boyfriend sometime in the near future. I've previously been a fan of Gary Gulman's comedy album No Can Defend (the title is a reference to Mr. Miyagi from the Karate Kid), so I was more than happy to check out his latest release In This Economy?, which came out late October on New Wave Dynamics.

Gulman is a comedian that came out of season 2 and 3 of NBC's Last Comic Standing and his jokes are based on observations on economy/money and plenty of movie references (you get the impression he watches a lot of TV.)

NO CAN DEFEND

In This Economy? is actually an improvement over No Can Defend, adding some great new jokes like the Bill Gates' fortune, but keeping what was funny from his previous album, including the hilarious "Discman" and "Netflix/Blockbuster" jokes.

Of the new material, the Bill Gates jokes are divided over three parts. Gulman explains in the eyes of Bill Gates, all other so-called billionaires are a joke. Particularly zeroing in on Donald Trump as the butt of the billionaire joke. Trump, who is no slouch in the money department, is painted as a small pea. But just to put things in perspective, Gulman joked about how he found a $20 in an old jacket and the ratio joke was that Bill Gates would have to forget about "$12 million dollar bill" in his jacket.

Based on Gulman's jokes about electronic, movies, and money (or lack of), you can tell that he definitely understand his subject. It is his rare insights that I often think "holy sh***, he's totally right!" as I laughed.

Comedian and writer, Dana Gould, best known for his work on The Simpsons, released his comedy special I Know It's Wrong on digital video and audio download on New Wave Dynamics. The album came out last month (November 11th), but I finally got around to reviewing this.

Gould proved that any topic can be funny, to prove that, he started his comedy set with "an AIDS joke, a rape joke, and a joke about 9/11." While I won't spoil the joke, the rape joke, which warped to raping clowns, is pretty funny.

I didn't care about the relationship jokes, and thankfully, those jokes were kept to a minimum. Instead, Gould concentrate more on crime (severed heads under the Hollywood sign, the Black Dahlia, and Ku Klux Klan) and pop culture (Bob Hope, reality shows).

Where Gould really shine is when he is joking about music, particularly any of his Beatles jokes like Stephen Hawking as the Beatles of Scientists and John Lennon in morning-after conversation with a Cicada bug. The latter must be heard; it is just one of the funniest imagined conversation I've ever heard.

In the end, Gould tried to defend some of his more offensive jokes by quoting Morrissey, "It's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate, it takes guts to be gentle and kind," before just quickly joking about walking around with your penis out. Of course.
