One of my favorite bands, The Colourist (who I randomly caught at a live show with Youngblood Hawke in 2013 and they blew me away with their really catchy pop songs), will be back in Minneapolis... this time supporting Echosmith. This isn't new information, as we broke the story in December 2014.

Echosmith is touring in support of Talking Dreams, which came out last year on Warner Bros. The Colourist has a 2014 self-titled debut album that came out in March 2014 via Republic.

We caught Nashville duo Neulore (Adam Agin and William T. Cook) last September 2014, but it would seem like the band is back in town, this time headlining the 7th Street Entry.

Opening up for the show will be Benjamin Cartel, who you may remember as the Cartel part in his band KaiserCartel. Lara wrote about KaiserCartel's show in 2009, "If this were an episode of Sesame Street, I would say “Tonight’s concert is brought to you by the letter ‘A’ for ADORABLE.” "

This is an unbelievable lineup. These two bands are two of my favorite live bands, and seeing them together on one bill is sort of amazing. My only problem is that these two bands will try and outdo each other... and that's a big win for their fans.

of Montreal as we previously mentioned are touring towards SXSW in support of Aureate Gloom (Polyvinyl Records), while Deerhoof, as we also previously mentioned, are touring in support of La Isla Bonita (Polyvinyl Records).

Utah's Joshua James is currently on tour, with a full band, stopping by the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis, last night, September 7th.

Armon Jay

Starting with a very short opening four-song set from singer/songwriter Armon Jay, played some tracks from his album Everything's Different, Nothing's Changed, including the title track, "Tomorrow" and "Burn the Bridge". This was Jay's second official show (third, if you count the Iowa house concert) on this tour... and although his set was brief, this was not the last we saw of Jay, who would later resurface as Neulore's keyboardist.

Nashville's neo-folk Neulore was up next, and they seemed eager to be on the start of this tour. Naturally, singer Adam Agin did most of the talking, however, whenever William T. Cook spoke, it was pure gold. Armon Jay helped them on keys, but left before "The Gathering Chant," but returned just for "Shadow of a Man."

All of the songs they played were from their forthcoming debut album Animal Evolve, which is set for release on September 23rd, via Chop Shop Records/Island Records.

During "Mercy! You Need Saving", the band requested the audience to help sing the background vocals, to "turn this into church".

For the introduction to their single, "Native Skin", Agin asked, "Have you ever been screwed before?" (when someone yell 'yes' in a suggestive approving manner), Agin immediately responded, "Not that way!"

Maybe they dropped a song from the set, or perhaps as a last minute change in song, but Cook was confused about the penultimate track, which was "Shadow of a Man." For this song, Cook got the tambourine out.

As for the finale, "Apples (When You Lost Your Belief)", a song about second chances, the duo decided to play in the middle/front area of the quiet seated audience, instead of on the stage with the spotlight.

Born in Nebraska, Joshua James moved to the 'mystic' mountains above the Great Salt Lake in Utah when he was 18. Somehow, themes such as this great migration, communication, holy spirit, friends, family, relationship, belonging, death, and darkness, always manage to sneak their way into many of James' songs.

For this current tour, James has a full band (Isaac on bass, Timothy "the Teeth" on drums, and Evan on electric guitar) backing him up. My impression of the introduction was that everyone in the band had side projects (other bands or solo albums) in the works, so they can all stand on their own.

The rest of the band left Joshua James and Evan alone, right before they started "Dark Cloud," a rather dark, sad song, but with a hint of hope.

James had introductions for many of his songs, giving us a glimpse of his life (since many of these songs are about him and the important people surrounding him). One of the most personal song was "Feel the Same," which was about how he thought technology and Facebook and human interactions were making him less human... so he decided to write real letters to his family and friends... and only one of them wrote back.

Encore was going to be just "Beware!", but as soon as the band started to head off the stage, James decided at the last minute that he was going to do one more song... and that song was "Lovers Without Love Like Me."

Joshua James is currently on tour in support of his latest album From the Top of the Willamette Mountain, out now on Intelligent Noise Records.

Joshua James w/ Neulore

American singer-songwriter Joshua James reached iTunes at #1 with his release of The Sun is Always Brighter in 2007. It would seem that James is on tour this Fall in support of his latest album From the Top of the Willamette Mountain, which came out in the fourth quarter of 2012, via Intelligent Noise Records.

Opening up for James will be Nashville's Neulore, a songwriting duo consisting of Adam Agin and William T. Cook. Neulore recently signed to Chop Shop Records (distributed by Island Records) on the strength of their single "Shadow of a Man", which was featured on ABC's Grey's Anatomy among many other television/film placements.

Mockingbird Son w/ Jake Jones

Mockingbird Son (Charlie Berry, Brett Taylor, and Truck Roley) is from Nashville, although both Charlie and Brett are originally from Dallas. The trio met while collaborating with CMA/ACM Song of the Year winner songwriter Tom Douglas (not to be confused with the chef).

Mockingbird Son's latest release is a digital single called "Hey Mary", which came out last month, August 21, 2014, via Hungry Jockey Records.

Opening up the show will be local indie/folk singer-songwriter Jake Jones. Jones started his musical path playing electric guitar to his friends, but eventually got hooked onto acoustic when he got older.

Glass Animals w/ Rome Fortune

Oxford's Glass Animals will be playing tracks from their debut album Zaba, which came out earlier this Summer via Harvest Records (the same label responsible for Morrissey's latest album, as well as Paul Weller's recent compilation), at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis on Tuesday, September 9th.

The band first came to our attention when we caught up with Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq and he said his #1 choice of British band at SXSW 2014 was Glass Animals. See his choice pick: SXSW 2014: Steve Lamacq Interview.

Musician/producer Rome Fortune from Atlanta will be opening up the show.
