Australia's San Cisco recently stopped by the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis on Monday, their fifth time in the Twin Cities (their fourth at the Triple Rock).
Opening up for San Cisco was MOTHXR (pronounced like 'mother'), displacing all-girls trio The Prettiots.
MOTHXR played some of their singles, "Stranger" and "Centerfold" in near-darkness. Near the end of their set, singer Jimmy Giannopoulos experienced some microphone difficulties.
With only a handful of singles, expect the band to work on a full length sometime this year.
As for San Cisco, what can I say? They've grown up since the last time we saw them. Singer Jordi Davieson grew out his hair and sports a trimmed beard.
The last few times we saw the band, they only had their debut album and basically they would play the entire album, plus some unreleased songs. Basically they played every song known to them. For this latest tour, they have a new album Gracetown, which Davieson said that was a real town just three hours south of Perth, Australia.
Prior to playing their most known hit 'Beer Song' "Awkward", Davieson thanked The Current 89.3 FM and the fans at the show. He said that Minneapolis is one of the few cities that when they play, people show up.
For this tour, the band created a different arrangement for "Awkward". This is understandable, considering that they have played that song a million times and desperately needed to keep it new and refreshing.
Most of the songs that they played from Gracetown felt like they were all about relationships, at least from what Davieson observed through his friends and friend's friends, particularly on "Wash It All Away".
Drummer Scarlett Stevens has more vocal duties on the new album as well, as she took lead vocals on "Magic" and duet for "Super Slow" (no drums for that song!)
They ended their set with another new song, "Run", this time dedicating the song "to anyone named Isabella."
The encore started with Davieson going back on stage playing "Skool" by himself. The rest of the band joined him for an older single "Fred Astaire".
San Cisco's Gracetown is out now. They end their North American tour at the Bowery Ballroom in New York this July 2nd. Catch them on this Gracetown tour.
