Juliana Hatfield is back on tour. Her upcoming album Juliana Hatfield Sings ELO, will be available on 11/17/23 on American Laundromat Records.

We haven’t seen Hatfield since Dec 2022 where we said, “No shade to the very good bands that came before her, but Juliana Hatfield really knows how to knock the wind out of you. I was lucky to catch her and her band back in 2015 playing all of 1993’s explosive Become What You Are but it’s a different vibe without a noisy band sharing the stage. Hers was a staggering solo performance with just an electric guitar and those airy vocals. Beginning with “Everybody Loves Me But You” from 1992’s Hey Babe, Hatfield delicately flowed through songs from her 30-plus year catalogue. The occasional false start, awkward pause or runny nose could not dampen the sting and ache of her music and words: “Little Pieces,” “I Got No Idols,” a searing “Candy Wrappers” (which my friend requested on Instagram!) and of course “Sister.””

Singaporean songwriter and producer Nat Ćmiel, or otherwise known by the stagename Yeule, will be headlining the Fine Line Music Café in Minneapolis this October 9th. Yeule’s new album softscars will be out on September 22nd via Ninja Tune.

Sasami to open. We caught Sasami in Apr 2022 and wrote, “Sasami came on stage slightly later than advertised. She’s dressed up in this outfit, and her live band is Vermont’s metal band Barishi. With the release of her new album Squeeze, Sasami teamed up with Rin Kim and Andrew Thomas Huang (a Chinese-American visual artist who worked with Björk and Radiohead’s Thom Yorke)... so the visuals and direction all tells the story of Squeeze.”

This is a sold-out seated show for renowned musicians Vijay Iyer, Shahzad Ismaily, and Arooj Aftab, known as Love In Exile. Their self-titled debut album is out now. The album has been a fan favorite of the likes of Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NPR and the New York Times.

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Reneé Rapp is touring in support of her debut album Snow Angel.

Alexander 23 is also listed on the poster. We previously saw Alexander 23 in Oct 2022 and wrote, “After “Somebody’s Nobody” Alexander removed a long-sleeve shirt to reveal a sleeveless T. Many cheered and some barked. “I’ve never been barked at,” he said, which guaranteed barking for the rest of the evening. Alexander’s sweet spot is singing about that tumultuous time of being a teenager, which he captured in “High School” with rolling cymbals, rising piano chords and a pointed falsetto voice.”

Show up early to check out singer / songwriter / guitarist Towa Bird. The half-Filipino, half-English artist spent much of her time in Thailand and London, and formed her first band at the age of 14. Her new single, “This Isn’t Me” came out on Interscope Records.

We saw Bahamas a long time ago, in Sep 2012 and said, “I did manage to catch Bahamas. Bahamas is basically the stage name for Afie Jurvanen, who may be most famous for being Feist's guitarist and piano player. I really liked them; they had this weird 50s sound to them, complete with two women backup singers. It wasn't all serious (based on his fancy jacket and glamorous ladies), they sometime sing silly songs like "Hockey Teeth."”

Hotline TNT (the project of Brooklyn-based musician Will Anderson) will be playing at the Snow And Flurry Festival in Minneapolis on Saturday, October 14th.

The Snow and Flurry music festival is taking place on October 13 and 14 at the Underground Music Venue (although I don’t see a listing for it on the venue’s official website). It looks like they’re promoting it through Instagram, which recently added Sheer Mag, Hotline TNT, Mask, etc.

Hotline TNT’s new album and Third Man Records debut, Cartwheel, will be out November 3rd.

Chicago’s Noname is on her first tour in four years, in support of the highly anticipated third album, Sundial. The tour will stop by First Avenue on October 15th.

There’s no need for introductions here… we like The Lemonheads. We are happy to see that singer Evan Dando is returning to Minneapolis this November 15th, with Heyrocco.

We caught The Lemonheads in May 2019 and said, “With this new 2019 tour, it’s in support of The Lemonheads’ Varshons 2, which is an all-covers album (the follow-up to the original all-cover album ten years prior called Varshons). So as expected, a bunch over cover songs were played, but oddly songs that would make sense for Minneapolis, such as The Jayhawks’ “Settled Down Like Rain” or Paul Westerberg’s “Things”, were not played.”

Joining Saint Jhn on tour is Los Angeles-based Tyla Yaweh, which NME dubbed as “emo-rap’s next icon.” We previously mentioned that he opened for Post Malone in Feb 2020.

Last year, Tennis, had to postponed their Swimmer tour, due to the COVID pandemic. This upcoming Minneapolis show, set at the Cedar Cultural Center on November 16th, is a make-up date. It’s been long sold out.

In addition, due to popular demand, new additional dates have been added to Los Angeles and Brooklyn after the initially announced dates in both markets sold out. Support on all headline dates comes from Molly Burch. The last time we mentioned her, she was the support for Sallie Ford in April 2017.

Also, if you are a fan of Rick & Morty, you may have heard Tennis’ new single “Borrowed Time” on the closing credits on the season 5 finale.

The rescheduled co-headlining tour of Los Angeles’ Bad Religion and Chicago’s Alkaline Trio will stop by the Palace Theatre in St Paul on November 16th. War On Women to open.

Both bands seems excited about sharing the stage, with Alkaline Trio co-lead vocalist/guitarist Matt Skiba citing that, “Bad Religion was one of my first loves”, while Bad Religion co-songwriter and lead singer Greg Graffin said the Alkaline Trio is “such a great band”.

We caught Bad Religion in July 2019 and wrote, “Greg Graffin and company played all the hits, and they were really good keeping in timing with great harmony. Again, the band were really in top form. I love seeing Brian Baker, when I saw them in the 90s, he was the “newest” band member to join and he bounced all over the place in his live performance. Sure everyone in the band is a little older now, but they still pulled off some well-practiced moves!”

When we first heard of Alex G as “Sandy”, in June 2016, I thought what a generic name. He clearly didn’t want to be found on the internet. Little did I know that after nine albums (his latest House of Sugar), that Alex G is now really popular with the youths of Minnesota (particularly the Radio K crowd). This came to my attention as I attended a young person/all-ages 100 Gecs show, and the advertisement for this show popped up and the crowd went absolutely nuts, clapping and hooing.

English rock band The Psychedelic Furs is back in Minneapolis this Thursday, March 6th. We previously caught the Butler brothers (Richard & Tim) in 2013 and noted, “30+ years on, the frontman of legendary alt-rock group The Psychedelic Furs smiled and laughed as he twirled, crouched, and led his band through a joyous 90 min. set in First Avenue’s Mainroom Tuesday night. That obvious affection for what he does is infectious and enhances the overall appeal of seeing any act live; the Furs also no doubt helped by a healthy handful of time-honored radio classics that so many in the audience knew every word to.”

Robyn Hitchcock will be opening the show. The iconic singer is out promoting his 21st studio recording, but first-ever eponymous release. The new record is basically a re-introduction “Robyn Hitchcock” to a new audience. Hitchcock adds, “Think of me as a new act - I'm only 63. People always ask me, where should I start listening to your records? I'm a train with many carriages. I thought, I'll just make this record and if people like this one, then they'll probably like the others. If they don’t, it’s not worth them listening to any of them, really.”

Also on the bill, local DJ Jake Rudh of Transmission to play music videos as we wait for the band.

Delicate Steve is back at 7th Street Entry. Delicate Steve’s Anti- Record’s debut album This is Steve (and their first album in four years) is out now.

The last time we saw Delicate Steve, it was in 2012, and we wrote, “Oh Delicate Steve, where do I start? These dudes know how to rock. The guitar band from New Jersey played with the crowd literally last night in New Orleans at the Circle Bar. The last song, the band brought the entire to pack the tiny stage and rock the night away to the crowd favorite "Butterfly". It gets you in that mood of running and jumping in the air at the same time with cowbells and tambourines.”

Judging by their 8-member photo, we have to wonder how they will all fit on the tiny 7th Street Entry stage.... General B And The Wiz to open. Also worth noting: seeing as they are friends with Har Mar Superstar by their photos, I would bet to find him at this show.
