Takeoff, one-third of the influential Atlanta hip-hop group Migos, died in an early Tuesday morning shooting at a Houston private party at the age of twenty-eight, while two others were injured, reports are confirming.
Police responded shortly after 2:30 a.m. to reports of shots fired at 810 Billiards & Bowling, where numerous people had gathered outside of the three-floor bowling alley reportedly playing dice, when some kind of disagreement broke out, and officers arrived to discover one victim already dead. Reports say Takeoff may have been hit by a stray bullet and no suspects have been detained.
Migos began in 2008 in Lawrenceville, Georgia, composed of three rappers known by stage names Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff (aka Kirshnik Khari Ball), going on to influence the genre with their North Atlanta-centric rap stylings.
They released their commercial debut single "Versace" in 2013, from their mixtape Y.R.N. (Young Rich Ni**as) and went on to release several more singles, including their four Billboard Hot 100 top 10 entries "Bad and Boujee" (with Lil Uzi Vert) (2016, went to #1), "MotorSport" (with Nicki Minaj / Cardi B) (2017, peaked at #6), "Stir Fry" (2018, peaked at #8), and "Walk It Talk It" (with Drake) (2018, peaked at #10).
The trio released their debut album Yung Rich Nation in July 2015 through 300 Entertainment/Quality Control Music and second album, Culture, was released in January 2017, debuting atop the US Billboard 200 chart.
The group would then sign a deal with Motown/Capitol Records in early 2017 and followed up the previous album with Culture II in January 2018, which also went to Number One. In 2021 fourth album Culture III was released, the third and final installment of their Culture Trilogy
In October 2022, Takeoff and Quavo (also his uncle) released an album without Offset entitled Only Built for Infinity Links, resulting in a rift between the trio.
We caught the trio live in Minneapolis back in 2018 as part of Super Bowl Week festivities when they surprised the crowd at the Armory for a short mid-set appearance in the middle of Machine Gun Kelly's set.
