I just bumped into Bristol based band Jetstream Lovers here on Vox (searching by tags can be enlightening) and I like what I hear!
They have an 8-track EP out on Line Out Records but are currently looking for a proper deal - A&R people, pay attention!

I knew I had to do something for those villagers. But what could I do? Reverend And The Makers is one of those UK bands that has been getting lots of attention through Internet music forums and extensive gigging. The band is based in Sheffield and has yet to release any records.
What The Milkman Saw is from a 9-song demo made by the band. They have been handing the demo out at gigs and it used to be available through the official band forum. But the demo has been taken down because of the expected success of the band? If you search long and hard enough, you will probably find a place to download the demo from. Four songs recorded for a radio session are available on their site, though.
There are still no dates for any proper releases but they are apparently now signed to London label Wall Of Sound so I guess it is just a matter of time.
Many people believe they are the next big band in the UK. Let's see after a year, shall we..

Introducing Candie Payne.
If you are into late sixties/early seventies John Barry kind of soundtracks then you are going to love the sounds of Candie Payne. At the age of 4 she found herself in New York after having spent her first years in Liverpool. She finally returned to her hometown in the early nineties where she is now based and produces her retro-inspired music.
This is her debut single which can also be found on her upcoming debut album I Wish I Could Have Loved You More released March 26. It will be out on the Liverpool-based Deltasonic label that also have The Coral, The Little Flames, The Zutons and The Dead 60's in their stable. The label was founded by Alan Wills who has been taking care of the drums in Shack and Top. The album is done together with songwriter/producer Simon Dine (Noonday Underground, Adventures In Stereo) who has also worked with Paul Weller. More on Simon Dine in another post.
Trivia: Brother Howie Payne used to front The Stands that are unfortunately no longer together. Other brother Sean Payne is drumming for The Zutons. Musical lot, that family, eh?

Hey Scenesters! is taken from UK band The Cribs' second album The New Fellas released in 2005.
The band is currently working on their third album in Vancouver with Franz Ferdinand's frontman Alex Kapranos as producer. He was hired for the producer job after The Cribs' supported Franz Ferdinand on their US tour last year.
I chose this song from the album because, well, I like it...
Bonus: Their debut 7" single Another Number from 2003 can be downloaded from their website. But be warned - it's not as good as their recent stuff.
Completely useless trivia: The 3 band members are brothers - two of them being twins.

Best song of the year so far for me! Hands down!
Ok, so it was actually released in June last year as the B-side of The Jakpot's debut 7" single Too Much Time but I only just discovered it two days ago :-) This is the demo version by the way.
Now, this gives me the same excitement as when I first heard those by now famous Arctic Monkeys demos back in the summer of 2005. And that's saying something!
The band is from Manchester and has according to their website been in the studio lately working on new songs. Apparently they are still unsigned but I'm sure they'll get picked up sooner rather than later.
The video included here is from the launch party of their single and just shows how much fun a gig really should be. Oh, and check the big looking bald bouncer trying to get people off the stage. Now, such nice bouncers are rare these days!
Oh, and did I already mention that this song is absolutely great?

I seem to stumble across a lot of Liverpool bands at the moment with The Wombats being one of them.
This is their 3rd single which is going to be released in April on vinyl only, I believe. Since they do not have a record deal in the UK, they are doing it themselves.
They also have one album out called Girls, Boys & Marsupials - but only in Japan of all places.
This is a charming little tune, me thinks!

Hot off the press! This was just aired for the first time on BBC's Radio 1 within the last hour. It is the new single Brianstorm (yes, it really is Brianstorm) from Arctic Monkeys to be released on April 16. The album Favourite Worst Nightmare will follow a week later.

Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz), Paul Simonon (The Clash), Simon Tong (The Verve) and Tony Allen (Fela Kuti) are the people behind the project The Good, The Bad And The Queen who released their debut album of the same name in January this year.
All songs are written and sung by Damon so the album does have a certain Damon feel to it. But the people he has gathered for this project are not nobodies but truly musical individualists who add their own unique touch to the songs. Especially, the basslines on this album are typical Paul Simenon (think Guns Of Brixton by The Clash).
The track selected here highlights in particular Tony Allen's unique drumming skills.
Trivia: The album is produced by Danger Mouse who rose to fame in 2004 when he mixed The Beatles' White Album with Jay-Z's The Black Album and put the result online as The Grey Album.

And the award for worst band name ever goes to...drumroll...GOOD SHOES! Oh, and they might as well get the award for worst record covers as well. And this cover is their best one!
Well, try to ignore the crap band name and cover and listen a couple of times to this. Never Meant To Hurt You is their upcoming fifth single which is to be followed by their debut album Think Before You Speak out in the end of March. This is the demo version.
The band is from London and they are getting getting quite some attention lately in the UK. They play a sort of fast awkward guitar based pop music with a little bit of late seventies new wave added to the mix.
Trivia: The debut album is recorded in Tambourine Studios in Sweden where also the Cardigans and Saint Etienne have recorded with producers Tore Johansson and Per Sunding. The studio is famous for its very dry and crisp sound if that makes any sense to anymore!
