Squirrel Flower
squirrelflower.net
Since releasing her debut album, I Was Born Swimming, in 2019, Squirrel Flower (Ella Williams) has been featured as “Artist to Watch” on Rolling Stone, “40 Best New Bands of 2020” on Stereogum’s list, as well as various other top lists.
Planet is Squirrel Flower’s latest, the EP is available on Polyvinyl Record Co..
Squirrel Flower will stop by Minneapolis at the 7th Street Entry on March 20.
Tenci to open. We previously saw them in Aug 2021 and said, “Opening up the show was Chicago-based musician Tenci, on their last appearance with Valley Maker. The band, led by Jess Shoman, features saxophone player, guitarist Curt Oren, drummer Joseph Farago (of Joey Nebulous), Isabel Reidy (of Izzy True), were both sad and grateful for being part of the tour. Sometime when we see bands near the end of their tour, you get the impression that they’re exhausted… but not with Tenci. The band seemed like they would be forever happy if they just kept traveling town to town talking about “snakes”.”

03/21 Animal Collective with L’Rain at First Avenue

Animal Collective
myanimalhome.net
Influential experimental band Animal Collective are back, and they’ll be stopping by First Avenue on March 21st, as part of their tour for their new album Time Skiffs.
We last saw Animal Collective at Desert Daze (in California) in Oct 2019 and wrote, “… electro-psych band Animal Collective’s set did not disappoint. They opened up with the old school tune from 2005’s Feels, Banshee Beat, fronting stunning visuals of disco dancing girls and hearts. These guys played a bunch of new material, a few being “Gem and I”, “Bolder”, and “Strangers”. Another, “DownDownDownDown” was one that was rare and unreleased. The trippy background art was ridiculous, the one with hands almost holding onto each other being my favorite. Their encore performance was “For Reverend Green”, which they hadn’t played in 12 years.”
Opening will be L’Rain, who we saw in Oct 2021 and said, “Opening the show was Brooklyn’s L’Rain (Taja Cheek), playing to a flower decorated mic station. The American experimentalist, multi-instrumentalist, composer was recently added to influential Pitchfork’s 25 Next List. They are saying that these artists are shaping the future of music.”

03/02 Thing with Feathers at Icehouse

Thing with Feathers
ttwfband.com
Nashville-based band The Thing With Feathers will stop by the Icehouse in Minneapolis on March 2nd. I've mentioned this before, since the Icehouse is a cafe in the daytime, their shows don't actually start until the business is closed... meaning shows generally starts at 10pm.
Thing With Feathers' new EP, Sundays in the South is out now on Fat Pipe Recordings/Kartel Music Group.

03/21 Escape From The Zoo and Public Serpents at 7th St Entry
|
Public Serpents
tentcityrecords.bandcamp
If you’re seeing Animal Collective next door (at First Avenue), you can enter the 7th Street Entry door (it’s inside to the same building) and see the co-headlining show of Escape From The Zoo and Public Serpents.
Houston’s Escape From The Zoo is a loud, fast, punk project from Days N’ Daze’s Jesse Sendejas co-founded with his wife Veronica.
New Jersey’s Public Serpents are described as “an experiment gone wrong”.
The two bands actually released a split 7” in 2020.
