Singer, dancer, actress
Rumer Willis just headlined the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis last Friday, October 14th.
Lott (stylized as
LOTT) opened up the show with songs like ‘All Said and Done’.
We
previously mentioned that Lott was Leah Ottman of We Are the Willows (you can read all about them
here).
The violinist joked that she the real reason why she loves being a “looper” was out of sheer laziness. The one-woman-and-a-violin band explained she played “classical violin extronics” (when an audience member asked what music genre she was playing between songs).
Rumer Willis, the oldest daughter of actors Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, is doing it all. She proved that she’s a fantastic dancer by winning Season 20 of
Dancing with the Stars. She proved that she can act and do Broadway, playing Roxie Hart (the lead) on the musical
Chicago. Now she is proving that she is a phenomenal singer as the headliner at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis. This was only the second night of the tour, but the band played it like they’ve been doing this for ages.
A few of us have actually heard Willis song, and after hearing her on this rare appearance (in fact, this is her first ever tour and she may not return to the touring life due to acting commitments, etc), it sounded like she’s been singing these songs her entire life.
Willis has not written any music (although this can’t be far behind), so, of course, her entire set featured standards or cover songs from classic singers.
Showing up in a stunning red dress, Willis launched into a mamba-licious version of ‘Sway’, complete with a Spanish stanza. Personally speaking, this is one of my favorite song, as I’ve previously mentioned in
2007.
You can tell Willis listened to a lot of early R&B/jazz music, covering some classics like ‘A Sunday Kind of Love’, ‘All I Could Do Was Cry’, ‘Since I Fell for You’, ‘Since I Fell for You’... but she also admired the modern tunes as well, as evident by her Amy Winehouse cover ‘You Know I’m No Good’ or Fiona Apple cover ‘Criminal’.
Joining Willis on stage was
Tye Blue who came on to sing duets or, in the case of Billie Holiday’s ‘God Bless the Child’, Tye sang it solo while Willis went backstage to take a breather.
If you love standards, you should check out Rumer Willis on her first-ever concert tour.
