Constant Insult
with Dauber, Christy Costello & Step Sister
at Zhora Darling
zhoradarling.com
It looks like Minneapolis’
Constant Insult is headlining this upcoming Zhora Darling show. If you’re not familiar with this venue, it used to be called the Red Stag Supperclub. We’ve seen a few shows at the
Red Stag, but haven’t been to the venue since it was re-opened as Zhora Darling in September 2023.
I don’t know much about Constant Insult, they don’t have any social account or website, but from their bandcamp, they’re described as punk with Katie Thornton and Will Olsen on guitars and vocals, Josh Swanson on bass, and Mike Wilson on drums. They’re actually the support band for the
Taxpayers coming up on
March 27, 2025.

Screaming Females at Triple Rock (08 Oct 2014)
|
The most interesting band on the bill is New York’s
Dauber. This band features Mike Abbate (aka King Mike), formerly of
Screaming Females, who we’ve seen a few times. Here’s a bad fuzzy photo of Mike from
Oct 2014.
Not a whole lot of details about this newish-band, but Dauber’s latest single is “Falling Down”, and they have a forthcoming LP coming up from Recess Records.

Christy Costello at First Avenue ( 31 Jan 2025)
|
Also on the bill are
Christy Costello (formerly of Blaha & Costello) and
Step Sister (a Minneapolis punk band featuring Jon,
Max, Dj, and Caitlin).
We previously saw Costello at
Best New Band of 2024 and wrote, “Christy Costello started with a music video ahead of their appearance. Costello’s music has a more retro rock sound, with a bit of a surf rock feel. It’s a sizable band with several members on brass and Monica LaPlante, who we saw earlier this month, on bass. This had great energy throughout, with a secondary percussion member dancing and basically playing hype woman with the crowd. Costello’s vocals cut through the complicated backing music and there is a real showmanship in addition the great musical chops.”
Dauber’s tour dates
4/13 - Rochester, NY @ Lux Lounge4/14 - Cincinnati, OH @ Dsgn Cllctv
4/15 - Bloomington, IN (venue TBA)

We saw Lake in
May 2011 and wrote, “Lake's new album is called Giving & Receiving, and I did manage to give it a listen to before I saw them to get an idea of what they'll sound like live. I'll admit, I was expecting a pretty mellow show. It does have things I like, the boys/girls vocals and brief pop songs. One thing I've noticed is that the band members play musical chairs and switches between keys and drums and bass, etc. Their songs have a tendency to point to the heavens ("Distant Stars", "The Stars", etc), so it seems natural that Lindsay asked what those clouds in the sky over Minneapolis were called. Someone in the audience said "mammatus". Luckily, I did manage to take some pictures of the mammatus clouds prior to the show, which I'm using in this article as the title header.”

with Michigander (duo)
at First Avenue

Catch acclaimed California rock band
Dawes is headlining First Avenue, in Minneapolis, on April 18, 2025, in support of their new album
Oh Brother.

Dawes at Liberty Hall (16 April 2023)
|
We saw Dawes in
Apr 2023 and wrote, “Los Angeles band Dawes is back on the road, supporting their eighth full-length, Misadventures of Doomscroller, (out last July via Rounder Records) and seemed very determined to extend the free spirit of the weekend, for as long as possible.
The new album stretches out their sound and features longer instrumental passages, channeling the jam band tendencies we all know they had in them. In concert, they suitably returned to their An Evening With… format (the way we caught them live back in pre-pandemic 2018 and before that in Minneapolis 2017) which features no opening acts and two full sets.”

Michigander at MN Yacht Club Festival (19 July 2024)
|
Michigander (duo) to open.
We saw Michigander in
July 2024 and said, “Jason Singer is billed under Michigander, and he really is from Michigan. Singer is recording a new album for 2025, and his last release was in 2023 for It Will Never Be The Same. Singer had some fans in the audience, with one wishing him happy birthday (he’ll be celebrating it tomorrow). When he started playing U2’s “I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For”, stripped down, the entire audience was helping him sing the beloved song.”

Tight Whips to open.
Dashed just released their self-titled debut album, while Lutheran Heat is releasing
Hi Again, what looks like their sophomore album (they previously released a live sessions and singles/splits.
Lutheran Heat writes:
Lutheran Heat's sophomore release, Hi Again, is finally here. After recording these songs in 2020 we went through a bunch of sh**, as did the world, as did our city. We took a break to change job, start businesses, have kids, and travel. Enjoy the tunes, and stay tuned for more!
According to them, they opened up Arbeiter Brewing and Outta Wax, a record pressing plant. Their new album is nine years in the making! If you can’t make it to Cloudland, they are also playing on April 24 at Pillar Forum (which

Bob Mould Band
with Poster Children
at Palace Theatre
first-avenue.com
Bob Mould (billed as
Bob Mould Band) is touring in support of Mould’s 15th solo album
Here We Go Crazy (via Granary Music/BMG Records).
Talking about the lead single “Neanderthal”, Mould said, “In the early stages of writing this album, I envisioned ‘Neanderthal’ as the opening track. I imagined a child raised in an unstable home, perpetually exposed to erratic and confrontational behavior. A fight or flight situation. ‘Neanderthal’ is a frantic sprint through darkened hallways littered with tension, conflict, and aggression. A claustrophobic maze of distorted mirrors. As the song nears the end, a pair of subconscious voices appear. The first voice is both soothing and unsettling, while the final voice is reactionary and violent. It’s a fight or flight song.”
Expect to hear that song at the upcoming Palace Theatre show on April 19, 2025.
Poster Children to open.
