Read More Rock the Garden Rock the Garden returns to the Walker Art Center as a two-day affair June 20/21, with acts to be announced on-air March 31st. Wishful thinking says Belle and Sebastian w/Courtney Barnett … Belle & Sebastian I've seen Belle & Sebastian twice, but have never made the commitment to tracking them down for autographs. That's got to be tough, as you know the group is large (currently: Stuart Murdoch, Stevie Jackson ... Modest Mouse Anyroad, Modest Mouse released We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank on 20 March 2007. This is the first studio album featuring Johnny Marr (ex-Smiths and Healers)! It comes in three formats ... Babes in Toyland Since I love all-things Riot Grrrls, naturally I wanted to check out Babes in Toyland live. A little trivia, but the legendary Minneapolis band actually fired bassist Courtney Love in 1987 … thestand4rd I've never heard of this this Minnesota-based, who seemed to have only formed late last year, featuring Corbin “Spooky” Black, Allan Kingdom, Psymun and Bobby Raps. …

We have been super excited about Rock the Garden this year, ever since we predicted that Belle & Sebastian was going to be one of the headliner, back in February 2015.

Some notes about the 2015 bands:

Local Thestand4rd got massive buzz when Allan Kingdom performed with Kanye West at the Brit awards.

Belle & Sebastian's last Minnesota appearance was in 2006, which we were there. The Scottish band's latest album Peacetime Wants to Dance is out now on Matador Records, however, looking at their recent setlists - the band will be playing a lot of old favorites.

Babes in Toyland's homecoming show will be at the Rock the Garden festival on Sunday (their first Minneapolis show since they reformed)... before heading out on their UK tour (see complete tour dates at news.weheartmusic.com.) The rumor is that there may be a last-minute secret local show.

Of course, I bought Modest Mouse's We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank album simply based on the fact that they employed The Smiths' guitarist Johnny Marr ... however, was disappointed to find them sans-Marr when they toured in support of that album. The Washington band's latest album Strangers to Ourselves came out March 17, 2015.

Read More Stone Arch Bridge Festival Father's Day is the last day of The Stone Arch Bridge Art and Music Festival, a free Cities 97 sponsored event. … Two Harbors Opening up the show was local Two Harbors, unveiling tracks from their latest album The Natural Order of Things (out in May on Susstones Records). Singer Chris Pavlich is dressed accordingly, in 60-ish mod fashion … Reina del Cid Listed as opener, and previously mentioned in the brief talk, are Reina del Cid. I believe the band (Reina del Cid on vocals/guitars, Toni Lindgren on lead guitar, Chris Wiberg on upright bass, and Zach Schmidt on drums …

If the name Kopecky sounded familiar, it is because they were previously in town last Rocktober 2014 under the name Kopecky Family Band.

The Nashville based is touring to promote their latest album, Drug for the Modern Age, which came out May 19th.

I'm actually a big fan of the French band Mono... but have never seen them live (they weren't together for very long). However, I have seen the Japanese Mono band live a long time ago in Minneapolis.

Mono will be back in town at the Cedar Cultural Center on Saturday, June 20th.

Miami's Holly Hunt (duo Beatriz Monteavaro and Gavin Perry) will open the show.

As previously mentioned, we love Paloma Faith's album Fall to Grace, which I described as a retro sound like Adele and Amy Winehouse. We're super excited that she will be stopping by Minneapolis at the Triple Rock Social Club on October 2nd, in support of her new album A Perfect Contradiction... Apparently Faith is also super excited to meet her US fans as well, take a read at her handwritten note.

Opening up for Faith will be Marques Toliver, a "classical meets R&B" singer, currently based in New York (by the way of Florida).

It's so weird, but a few years ago, Matisyahu started appearing without yarmulke and facial hair... those few things defined Matisyahu as a rapper who was faithful to the Jewish religion and took his belief almost to the extreme (which meant he couldn't perform music or "work" after sundown).

Matisyahu explained, "When I started becoming religious 10 years ago it was a very natural and organic process. It was my choice. My journey: to discover my roots and explore Jewish spirituality—not through books but through real life. At a certain point I felt the need to submit to a higher level of religiosity...to move away from my intuition and to accept an ultimate truth. I felt that in order to become a good person I needed rules—lots of them—or else I would somehow fall apart. I am reclaiming myself. Trusting my goodness and my divine mission."

His latest album Akeda (a Hebrew word meaning 'binding' or sacrifice) was recorded in Brooklyn's Studio G with his touring band, Dub Trio (Dave Holmes, Stu Brooks, and Joe Tomino), and was produced by bassist Stu Brooks (with assists from Studio G owner, Joel Hamilton, and Dave Holmes).

Matisyahu will be at First Avenue on Thursday, October 2nd. Opening up will be California's Radical Something, who had their EP No Sweat, reaching #6 on the iTunes overall album chart.

If you were into California punk bands from the 80s and 90s, bands like Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Social Distortion, Bad Religion, Vandals, and, of course, Agent Orange from Orange County were on your playlist.

Although there is only one original band member (Mike Palm), you have to give them some respect for carrying that punk torch for so long.

Opening for Agent Orange at the 7th Street Entry will be Kansas City's The Architects.

Americana string band Old Crow Medicine Show will be heading back to Minneapolis at the State Theatre, in support of their latest album Remedy, out now on ATO Records.

The ATO thing is interesting, because prior to 2011, the band was signed to Nettwerk. After a break/hiatus in 2011, the band came back and released Carry Me Back in 2012 on a new label (ATO).
