With haunting voice and moves, FKA twigs (aka Tahliah Debrett Barnett) presented her well-crafted R&B/trip-hop songs from debut album LP1 (Young Turks) at the Fine Line Music Café in Minneapolis, last night.

The sold out show opened with Jordan Asher’s project BOOTS, who has in the past produced for Beyoncé. The 25-minute performance carried a powerful energy through industrial-tinged rock with R&B undertones played with a guitar, two drummers and one synth player. He noted almost by the end of the performance: “I don’t know much, but the one thing I do know is that everything is on fire”. His sound could perfectly be explained in those words.

Beginning with “Preface”, and with a style that made allusion to Aaliyah, FKA twigs hypnotized the crowd with her voice and unique sharp moves. With very minimal words towards the crowd, other than thanking them, it was clear that Twigs was placing all of her energy towards doing an immaculate presentation. The audience clearly enjoyed the passion she placed on “Lights On” and mostly “Video Girl” and the hit “Two Weeks”.

On stage, twigs’ singing eludes a graceful and erotic siren through, in a way that would make Prince proud; making it not so surprising that he’ll be hosting her presentation in Paisley Park today.

FKA twigs will continue the rest of 2014 on tour over the West Coast to finish it next year in Europe.
