Steve Earle’s son, singer/songwriter Justin Townes Earle has passed away at a very young age of 38. Justin, like his father, battled with drug additions, and ultimately died over a “probable drug overdose,” according to Rolling Stone.

Police discovered Justin’s body at his Nashville apartment on Sunday, after friends reported that they haven’t heard from musician since August 20th.

Justin Townes Earle been through town a few times, his last Minneapolis appearance that we mentioned was in May 2018.

Gerry McGhee, the singer of Canadian hard rock band Brighton Rock, has died at the age of 58 to cancer.

The band was formed by guitarist Greg Fraser and bassist Stevie Skreebs, with vocalist Gerry McGhee, keyboardist Martin Victor and drummer Mark Cavarzan, in 1982. After ten years, the band broke up.

They reformed in 2001, for a reunion tour and resulting in a live album release called A Room for Five Live.

Riley was a friend, a brother, a son. Riley was both a larger than life rock star and a humble and giving friend. He touched so many lives through his lyrics and through his huge heart. He treated everyone he met as a friend and he always took care of his friends. We will celebrate Riley's life and never forget the great works of music, charity, and love that he left behind.

I remember about 10 years ago, a former co-worker, who heard that I was “into music”, talked about one of his favorite French band, Paris Combo. He was so adamant about me listening to the group that he burned their debut album for me.

I listened to it, it’s very jazzy. I believe they were a trio, and the most memorable part of the group was their singer, Belle du Berry, who had a very sweet voice. I’m sadden to learn that she died at the age of 54 to cancer.

The Breeders will be headlining First Avenue this Sunday. The band is probably best known for their one-hit “Cannonball” song. Unfortunately, I do not believe Tanya Donelly will be joining the Deal sisters (Kim & Kelley Deal) as she’s busy prepping and touring with her re-formed Belly band this Summer.

If you love The Pixies and 90s alternative bands, you have to see the Breeders on Sunday… then head over to Liz Phair on June 4 at the Turf Club.

It’s like the 90s never left us. Hooray!

We previously saw Wavves in 2013 and wrote, “After a brief intermission, fellow So Cal garage punk/pop cohorts Wavves blasted in with an equally relentless 52min set (no encore, apparently not ‘punk’ to do so). “Idiot” appropriately started their set, only to be hindered early on, by lack of a channel in singer Nathan Williams’ monitor speakers. "Bug," from 2011’s Life Sux EP followed by "Take on the World" next, before the band played its recent and maybe most accessible song to date, "Demon to Lean On”, from the new ‘Afraid of Heights’ which understandably got a noisy positive response, despite being so early into the set.”
