There is a co-headlining Preston Gunderson and Jillian Rae at the Turf Club on August 24.

Both artists are from Minneapolis, with Preston Gunderson described as part of the Minneapolis music scene for a decade, when he started playing at the age of 15 at the “Iron Range” bar in Northern Minnesota.

South Carolina’s Susto is on tour in support of My Entire Life (New West Records).

The new album had drastic changes to the band, particularly SUSTO frontman Justin Osborne going through a divorce, difficulties re-building his band after the pandemic, and witnessing family members struggle with addiction and mental illness.

Osborne noted, “SUSTO’s narrative has always been confessional, and songwriting is my way of trying to make sense of the chaos—good and bad—around me. This record is my story of navigating a bunch of chaos, but finding ways to carry on and manifest my own happiness…the last few years were a challenge, but I look back and see that I made it through, a better, truer, and more realized version of myself.”

Acclaimed Malian artist Vieux Farka Touré will be playing the Dakota Jazz Club, in Minneapolis, on May 18, in support of his forthcoming album Les Racines (World Circuit Records).

Vieux is known as the “Hendrix of the Sahara” and is the son of the late “Desert Blues” pioneer Ali Farka Touré. We saw him play in July 2013 and said, “The music that the band exuded was very African, but had the sound of underlying western rock and roll. Much of the times it had a very rhythm and jazzy expression. Mostly, it sounded joyful. Vieux Farka Touré is from Mali and all the words were sung in his native tongue.”

Recently, London duo Oh Wonder dropped new single, “F*** It, I Love You”, taken from their upcoming 22 Make (set for release on July 22nd on Republic Records). We had to censor the title, and the duo (Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West) did mention that they might try for a radio-friendly version: “We’re struggling for a non-explicit version.”

With that news, Oh Wonder will be doing a short American tour. They are returning to First Avenue on May 18th. No opening band announced as of this writing.

We saw Oh Wonder in June 2016 and said, “Oh Wonder has been selling out most of the more populated cities on their first U.S.A. tour, and it’s a good indication that they may have to come back at bigger venues. If you were lucky enough to have caught them at the incredibly packed show last Friday, you’ll realized that this is probably the smallest place they’ll play in their career.”

Swedish songstress Winona Oak will open the show. Oak's debut album Island of the Sun is coming out June 10th. After this American tour with Oh Wonder, Winona is slated to support Alec Benjamin on his European tour this summer.

I was actually surprised to see Tiffany touring listing at the Turf Club, I didn’t know she was on tour.

I remember in 1987, there were two princess of pop ruling the radio airwaves: Debbie Gibson and Tiffany. Tiffany was known for her cover songs, the first was Tommy James and the Shondells’ “I Think We're Alone Now” and the second was a girl version of The Beatles “I Saw Her Standing There”.

The last news I saw was that Tiffany released a single of “Hey Baby” and a deluxe version of Pieces Of Me on Deko Entertainment.

The Portland, Oregon band features Ruth Radelet (vocals, guitar, synthesizer), Adam Miller (guitar, vocoder), Nat Walker (drums, synthesizer), and Johnny Jewel (producer, multi-instrumentalist).

Montreal’s Desire to open. The group is fronted by Megan Louise sings in French and English over Italo Disco laced Dream Pop.

Australia’s dance duo The Presets is headlining the Turf Club in St Paul on Wednesday, October 3rd.

The duo (Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes) won a few Australian awards, including APRA for Songwriters of the Year and ARIA for Best Dance release in 2009.

Their latest Hi Viz came out in June 2018, via Modular Recordings.

Brighton’s Blood Red Shoes to open. The last time we saw the duo (guitarist Laura-Mary Carter and drummer Steven Ansell), they blew us away with their anthemic song “Light It Up”.

The 1975 is back in America to promote their #1 US and UK sophomore album I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it (Dirty Hit / Interscope Records).

We’ve been covering the UK quartet since their US debut in October 2013 and recently covered their First Avenue show in 2015 and we can tell you that they’ve consistently sold out their Minneapolis appearance.

This year, the band upgraded their venue to St Paul’s Roy Wilkins Auditorium, which is not our favorite venue, but at least it may be big enough to accommodate all their fans.

Show up early to check out all the buzz for Colouring. The London band is touring on the strength of their debut EP Symmetry and their new single ‘The Wave’. The track is taken from their upcoming EP, due from Interscope Records in mid-2017.

With strong local support from radio station Go 96.3, K.Flay has been invited to the Twin Cities since Aria in March 2015 and just recently at Fine Line in Feb 2017.

The Los Angeles-based pop/hip-hop singer is back on tour now for her second album Every Where Is Some Where.

Austin’s Missio to open. The band previously opened for K.Flay on her Crush Me Tour. The duo’s breakout single ‘Middle Fingers’, which was quickly picked up on SiriusXM’s Alt Nation (where it hit the #1 spot on the influential “Alt-18 Countdown”). The song will likely be available on their debut record Loner (available May 19th).

Lorenz had all the musical instrumentals in his “band” at an arm’s length... complete with leg percussions and Caleb Hawley Side 2 EP by American singer/songwriter Caleb Hawley, just came out last night, September 9th. The one-man-band (Matt Lorenz) was previously in town in April 2017, and we noted, “Lorenz is no stranger to being on stage and managing a variety of instruments, as he was one of the member of trio Rusty Belle, with his sister Kate. After finding a guitar from a dorm dumpster, Lorenz fixed it up and started working on songs that would soon would be known as his The Suitcase Junket project.” Del Barber and Jillian Rae to open. 7:30pm, $10.
