His latest single is "The Poison Tree", so he will be performing that song. The song is from Moby's 2011 Destroyed album. In the meantime, the double disc Destroyed Remixed album will be out May 1st (digital) and June 19th .…
Multi-platinum-selling, multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, author, and animal rights activist, Moby is DJing for the first time since the pandemic to benefit “Vegans of LA Food Bank”, this October 29, 2023.
The event will take place at Gold Diggers, in Los Angeles, and joining Moby will be KCRW’s DJ Raul Campos.
And the best part is that Moby decided to make it affordable, stating, “In a world of excessively high ticket prices, I thought it would be nice to play for $5 and give all of the money to one of my favorite local charities.”
The first 50 tickets sold are guaranteed entry at $5, then there will be an RSVP waitlist of 300 once those go. All the details and purchasing instructions can be found here.
Moby (23 May 2016)
We saw Moby at his book signing in May 2016, and said, “For the reading, dressed on a warm evening in a t-shirt, hoodie and sport coat, Moby selected two passages from his early days about DJ-ing in the late ‘80s in sketchy NYC venues and living (squatting really) in an abandoned warehouse, aspiring to make it on the club scene. The third and last passage read, was from near the end of the book, detailing being dropped by his label, battling with alcohol, and coming to terms that his career as a musician might be at its end.”
I believe the Longpigs opened up for all the dates on this 1997 tour. Note that the poster misspelled the name as "Long Pigs". The British band was riding the coattails of Britpop in the mid-90s

BMG has announced their first ever career spanning collection of Richard Hawley’s works in a double LP color vinyl or double CD album or digital release, called Now Then: The Very Best of Richard Hawley. The collection will come out October 20th, 2023.
For those not familiar with Hawley, he started his career in The Longpigs, and then joining Pulp as their guitarist.
He’s worked with everyone, from the Arctic Monkeys to the Manic Street Preachers to Paul Weller, and so on. His song “Tonight The Streets Are Ours” was featured in The Simpsons, and recently, his music have appeared in Peaky Blinders and The Full Monty, as well as the hugely acclaimed and award-winning musical named after his 2012 album, Standing At The Sky’s Edge, and Wes Anderson’s 2023 film Asteroid City.
PS, I have seen Longpigs in 1997, but have no memory of it.

We’re kind of excited to hear that The Bird and The Bee is back with a new cover album Interpreting the Masters Volume 2: A Tribute to Van Halen (available August 2 on No Expectations / Release Me Records). This is the follow-up to 2010’s Interpreting the Masters, Vol. 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates.
With the new album, the duo (vocalist Inara George and multi-instrumentalist Greg Kurstin) will set to tour North America to support the new record. As we previously mentioned at their last Minneapolis show in November 2015, Greg Kurstin will not be appearing. Kurstin has famously hated and refused going on tour …. but he will play local (Los Angeles) shows.
I’ve already had a taste of hearing some tracks from the album, and it’s the typical wonderful deconstruction of a “hard rock” music of Lee Roth-era Van Halen, but with the touch of calm, jazz breakdown. The differences are so great that you probably wouldn’t know they were Van Halen songs.

Sally, joins us once again to talk more Britpop! Is there a britpopcast in the future?
Talks centers around Jarvis Cocker and Pulp, Suede.
Pulp started in 1978 …
The great noise, shoegazing band My Bloody Valentine is on a reunion tour. We’re talking the original classic lineup of Kevin Shields, Colm Ó CÃosóig, Debbie Googe, and Bilinda Butcher.
.…
With Desert Daze 2018 coming up this weekend (October 12th-14th, 2018) at Lake Perris, California, we thought we’d spotlight some of these bands we’ve already seen.
Also, the Music Festival announced that Friday’s ticket and Camping are nearly sold out, so if you’re on the fence about attending this weekend, it’s time to pull the trigger.
Jarvis Cocker (Friday): Frontsman of Britpopster band Pulp will be at Desert Daze on Friday. If you’ve ever listened to a Pulp album, you know that Cocker’s lyrics are often like reading a mini novel. He’s a genius. Since going solo, Cocker has really expanded from just a singer in a band to something more interesting, like film actor, film maker, and writer.
Slowdive (Saturday): After years and years of inactivity, the re-formed/re-united English band did small tour in 2014 (which was one of our greatest highlight). Now, with a 2017 self-titled album, the shoegazing band will like stick around. If you’ve never seen the band, you’ll be glad to know that they were recently added to the Desert Daze lineup for co-headlining on Saturday night.
My Bloody Valentine (Sunday): Deservingly headlining Sunday evening. Let’s face it, when you talk about shoegazing music, the band that everyone is influenced by is probably My Bloody Valentine. Like Slowdive, MBV was on a long hiatus, until Kevin Shields got the band back together.
There’s still a million other bands coming to Desert Daze, so there’s a little something for everyone.
Can’t wait for the weekend? There are a couple of smaller, side shows leading up to the big event:
Regent
10/09 Shannon & the Clams, Escape-ism, Tropa Magica
October (thank god because we would all melt in the otherwise typical days of such shenanigans) will bestow the 6th installation of the transcendent music festival Desert Daze in Joshua Tree, California.
....
Tame Impala is touring the U.S. again in support of their album, Lonerism. Kevin and crew have definitely crafted a piece of art. Loud, incredibly groovy.
...
Shoegaze band Slowdive are currently on a reunion tour, stopping by Minneapolis' Fine Line Music Café, after being absent from the city in twenty-two years!
....
Ah, the mornings are beginning to be met by a cool autumn breeze...so this must mean desert festival season is under way! Desert Daze has been a myriad of magical atmospheric wonder along with the most entertaining of artists, and this year is no exception. With Tame Impala headlining, it could in fact be the best one yet.
I could enumerate on how this festival is, in my opinion, the Mecca of all festivals, but it is really something to be seen by the own eye to truly comprehend. Along with bizarre instillations and an entire village complete with meditation tent and tea ceremonies, this isn’t just a music festival…it’s an Extraterrestrial Festival.
The California-based festival run by Jjuujju’s guitarist Phil Pirrone has an impressive lineup this year featuring Tame Impala, My Bloody Valentine, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard (also a returning band), Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, Shellac, Ty Segall & White Fence, Warpaint, Earth (performing The Bees Made Honey In The Lion’s Skull), Malcom Mooney of CAN, Steve Albini, Connan Mockasin, Pond, and Julia Holter, Earthless. There are always surprise guests and DJ’s along with plenty of mind-enhancing activities to attend in between shows.
English dream-pop band Slowdive has recently been added to the festival, which will by far be one of the most sought-out performances of the weekend.
Check out Desert Daze’s amazing lineup poster, featuring the latest additions and broken down by day. Single-day tickets are now available in addition to three-day general admission and VIP passes. Visit the festival’s website for more info.

Sally, joins us once again to talk more Britpop! Is there a britpopcast in the future?
Talks centers around Jarvis Cocker and Pulp, Suede.
Pulp started in 1978 …
June is here and we’re adding another name to our ever-growing 2016 Musician Deathlist. Although boxer Muhammad Ali is not known for music, his boxing legacy, style, self-declared “The Greatest” and quotable catchphrase (“float like a butterfly, sting like a bee”) inspired musicians all over. A good solid listing can be seen on Wikipedia.com, which cited Johnny Wakelin & the Kinshasa Band (for their single ‘Black Superman (Muhammad Ali)’), Bob Dylan (for the song ‘I Shall be Free No. 10’), R. Kelly (for the song ‘World’s Greatest’) and LL Cool J (for his 1991 single ‘Mama Said Knock You Out’) among some of Ali’s biggest fans.
They didn’t mention Cat Power’s album and title track ‘The Greatest’, which I have always felt was a nod to Ali because of the boxing gloves on the album cover and the song lyrics, “Once I wanted to be the greatest. Two fists of solid rock, with brains that could explain any feeling.”
Also: the father of Jarvis Cocker (of Pulp), Mac Cocker recently passed away, according to doublej.net.au. Apparently Cocker was a radio DJ for Double J (currently owned by Triple J).
Dave Swarbrick of the English folk rock band Fairport Convention died at the age of 75 due to emphysema, according to theguardian.com. Universally known as Swarb, he played the fiddle in Fairport Convention. Swarbrick left Fairport in 1981 and in 1983, moved to Northamptonshire, and formed a new acoustic folk band, Whippersnapper.
UPDATE:
Surfer Blood's guitarist Thomas Fekete died on 30 May 2016, but we just learned about it now. Fekete was forced to leave the band in 2009 when he learned of his terminal cancer. Fekete passed away at the young age of 27, according to spin.com. We are big fans of the band and previously caught them post-Fekete, with Art Brut in November 2009.
South by Southwest (SXSW) Music is next week: March 11-16th. Since March 1st, I've received about 200 emails with the subject header of "SXSW" …
Day Four (March 13) of SXSW in Austin, Texas.
Temples at Austin Psych Fest's Levitation Austin
Thursday, March 13
Temples at Pyscfest. Having to stand behind the stage and fence. Couldn't wait for a two block line for a potential chance of getting in....
T-Rex meets Syd Barrett from Pink Floyd. Get a groove and keep it going.... Lots of buzz on these guys and deservedly so.
Temples' debut album, Sun Structures, is out now on Fat Possum. After SXSW, Temples will set out for their U.S. tour, stopping by St Paul's Turf Club on Thursday, April 24.
Wytches at Austin Psych Fest's Levitation Austin
Thursday, March 13
We just mentioned Wytches last night at The British Music Embassy, but here they are at Austin Psych Fest's Levitation Austin.
Just caught the last song.
The Wytches are currently based in Brighton. The three-piece surf-psych band are currently signed to Heavenly Recordings (Partisan Records in the U.S.) with "Gravedweller" as a free digital single.
Casual Sex from Glasgow. Somewhat like Franz Ferdinand with a gimmick of makeup and whacky guitars; they didn't play straight up solos. They are another band who like chorus on their guitars...
Casual Sex recently 'bumped' into legendary Jarvis Cocker (talk about some bad puns) at SXSW and they are promoting their EP 12" The Bastard Beat, out now.
Casual Sex at the British Music Embassy, Austin (03/13/14)
With SXSW 2013 to be in March, we're already starting to see announcements for showcases. For those that can't afford to travel to SXSW every year, the good news is that really good bands are …
It's that time of the year again: SXSW pre-announcements. Expect to hear nothing but SXSW bands from now until April.
Vu, Brody and Rebecca Ann Henry (RAH) on W♥M Radio this week, to talk SXSW.
With over 1,700+ bands on the lineup for SXSW, it's almost way too much. We talked about some of these bands that we're looking forward to seeing at SXSW.
The Magic Numbers - English pop rock band comprising two pairs of brothers and sisters from Hanwell.
Only Real - British band, "they just dropped out".
Jarvis Cocker - Pulp's singer will be giving an extraordinary talk on the meaning of artistic vision at the SXSW 2014 Music Conference. Cocker will be speaking on Wednesday, March 12th from 12:30pm-1:30pm at the Austin Convention Center Room 18ABC.
Strange Talk - Melbourne-based alt-pop four-piece will be releasing their Wind-up Records debut album Cast Away on April 29, 2014. Look for them at CMJ and SXSW.
Jezabels - Sydney-based band, currently on tour in support of their album Prisoner.
Action Bronson - He raps about food.
Rebecca Ann Henry - Singer/songwriter with full band called RaH.
Suzanne Vega - New Yorker singer/songwriter is set to play SXSW 2014 Music Festival on Saturday, March 15th at the Central Presbyterian Church.
We talked about SXSW strategy, free drink tickets, and seeing random free shows
Song of the show is: "Concrete Floor (Amontillado)" by Rebecca Ann Henry.

After a five year absent from the music scene, The Fratellis are back with a brand new album We Need Medicine. The Scottish band is currently in the middle of a tiny, tiny U.S. tour in support of it, and basically selling out every …
We were lucky enough to have caught The Fratellis at their sold-out tour in 2013. The Scottish band just announced new 2014 North American tour dates. Buy your tickets now (if it's available for advance tickets), because based on their previous sold out status at smaller clubs, these shows will likely sell out as well:

Thanks to motormouth for sending in some information and upcoming tour dates for We Were Promised Jetpacks. Jetpack's latest album, These Four Walls was released earlier this month, their upcoming tour schedule …
We Were Promised Jetpacks will be returning with E Rey - Live in Philadelphia, an album that was recorded at Philadelphia's Union Transfer. The live album will be out February 25th via FatCat and follows up We Were Promised Jetpacks critically acclaimed sophomore album In The Pit Of The Stomach.
I previously saw We Were Promised Jetpacks at SXSW 2009 at the Scottish Showcase, and they were so very happy to have such a crowded audience (especially showing up early for the opening band), and mentioned on stage that no one gave a "sh***" about them in their hometown.
Looks like the band is back in the U.S. to tour around SXSW this year:
02.21 - Los Angeles, CA @ The El Rey

Sally, joins us once again to talk more Britpop! Is there a britpopcast in the future?
Talks centers around Jarvis Cocker and Pulp, Suede.
Pulp started in 1978 …
'Everything is New' is the international outreach project created by Scottish arts community Transgressive North in aid of Dalit "untouchable" children in southeast India, now has over 1,000 contributors, all working for free. Proceeds from the project go to the charity Scottish Love in Action which feeds, clothes, houses, educates and provides medical care for over 500 children by funding the Light of Love Home and School in southeast India.
Coming out next week, January 20th, are two releases:

On both releases, you can hear the voices of Light of Love Children's Choir, which is made up of the voices of the children from the Light of Love Home and School.
In further support of the project, Transgressive North released Marram feat. Jarvis Cocker and Margaret Bennett's "Falling From The Sun." You can hear it on Soundcloud.
This is the best part, the entire soundtrack was created by instrumental Scottish band Mogwai. They are more shoegazy or mathrock, but for the soundtrack, which was released February 25th …

Vladimir is "the noisiest band in Dundee [Scotland]", according to Daily Record.
The four-piece young band (everyone is 18 years old) is known for their "excessively loud chaotic live shows", opening up for such bands as Peace, The View, Pigeon Detectives, The Twilight Sad and Wet Nuns.
Their last release was "Come Over", which came out November 18th, 2013.
You can hear the track on soundcloud.com. The track is free to download.
The band was recently on "Vic's 25 Scottish Artists to Watch 2014". The list is in alphabetical order, so take that as you will with Vladimir ending up last because of the 'v'.
I was hoping to have a report from "man on the scene" Brody on his report of SXSW 2010, but it looks like he's still recovering. In the meantime, this show is about Jarvis Cocker's Australian tour, which is finally edited for the show.
Kristen went to see Jarvis on four of the seven Australian dates and sends in her report about her adventures. Sally went to two dates and detailed them here: Jarvis Cocker - Australian Tour, December 2009.
Note: Jarvis did not do any Pulp songs, which was disappointing to see.
In addition to archive.org and mypodcast.com (the later is flaky at times), I'm also putting our podcast on podomatic.com. So far, I'm liking its option to include artwork on the MP3 files and statistic tracking.... and it's fast and reliable.
I have even made it easier for you, if you use iTunes, just click below and you're all set!
UPDATE 3/21/2010: Kristen wanted to mention that Jarvis Cocker's guitarist, Tim McCall, recently died in an accident at home, adding "Which is really sad because he has been with Jarvis since the first solo record."
Tim McCall, aged 37, died at his home in Crosspool. The circumstances of his death have not yet been made public.
Tim was well known on the Sheffield music circuit, with his biggest break coming when his friend - Sheffield singer Richard Hawley - introduced him to Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker.
First thing I’d like to say is, if you really love a band and you get the chance to see them play in Adelaide, take that chance. I am now a firm believer the people in Sydney are at least seven times more rude than anywhere else.
So, Jarvis Cocker is about to wrap up his second solo Australian tour this weekend and I managed to see him at both the Metro in Sydney and the Gov in Adelaide. Now… both shows were equally as excellent musically, the sound was much better in Sydney, but the atmosphere in Adelaide was just so much more amenable to such an apparently accommodating chap such as Jarvis Cocker.
What do I mean by accommodating? Well he’s very generous with the chocolates (can’t say the same for the girl in Sydney who would only stretch as far as giving me half a square of a chocolate – I didn’t care that it was Jarvis’, I didn’t want to ruin your chances of selling it for $15 on ebay, I just wanted chocolate) and drinks (but hopefully not a nasty strain of Jarvicoccus Aureus – oh microbiology jokes, so hilarious) and quite amenable to having a good old chat with the audience.
One thing I was especially impressed with was that between the two shows, I can’t recall one thing he repeated saying. (Might have had something to do with the cheat sheet he had attached to his set list). Although, I am well known for being easily impressed.
All the tunes were there: Angela, Black Magic, Further Complications, Fuckingsong, Homewrecker and even You’re In My Eyes, the disco song, which I have professed to dislike intensely, but actually got me dancing. I must say, there’s something about the really loud parts of Jarvis’ songs, most notably in Black Magic, that just sends a shiver down ones spine. The man, again, lived up to all expectations (after two sneaky pretending-the-show-was-over-and-walking-off-stage moments), wrapping up the set with a lovely rendition of Running the World.
Aside from his witty banter about such profound topics as koalas and why they don’t just eat something else (because what they actually eat doesn’t give them enough energy to do anything other than sleep when they aren’t eating), being attacked by an emu and whoever’s birthday it happened to be on that day (someone had been doing their research), by far the greatest thing of all was Jarvis’ trademark dance moves. He must really have an excellent sense of balance, a lesser man would have been a pile on the floor if they tried to pull off some of the leg-flailing movements that Jarvis can do.
Special mention also goes out to Martin Craft (you may remember him from the Australian band, Sidewinder); support act and guitarist within Jarvis’ crew. Talented guy; quite a musical contrast to Jarvis both within the song subject and the feel of the tunes. Slow, and wispy, a single acoustic guitar, a synth and a saxophone. Nice.
Brilliant.
(Thanks to Miss Kristen who followed the man around the country and took these pictures)
On a side note, I just wanted to thank everyone who came to the Abercrombie hotel for britpop last week and want to draw your attention to the Britpop Christmas party happening on the 23rd. Could very well be the last one! Get there!
