Phoenix shoegazers Glixen are on tour in support of their second EP quiet pleasures (available Feb 21 on AWAL and on vinyl via Wichita Recordings). Catch the band at the 7th Street Entry on March 7th, 2025.

We saw Glixen in March 2024, and wrote, “Glixen next took the stage. They are also a shoegazing band from Phoenix, Arizona with headliner Aislinn Ritchie on vocals and guitar with Esteban Santana on guitar, Sonia Garcia on bass and Keire Johnson on drums. Whereas she’s green was more melodic, Glixen leans heavily into fuzz and distortion, as Ritchie explained to Alternative Press: “Our goal is just to have it sound more heavy and grittier, but also have that sweetness to it.” Tuning up their instruments and testing the mics seamlessly led into their first song “Shut Me Down.” Ritchie said it was their first time playing in Minneapolis. “Phoenix is far, far away.” She then asked if they could change the lights to red as they played a new single “foreversoon” and songs from their 2023 EP She Only Said.”

We saw she’s green with Glixen in March 2024, and wrote, “Their sound can be described as lush shoegazing as Armstrong and Lucas hardly looked up from their pedals. A crowd favorite was “Smile Again” as “Tarmac” built into a wonderful crescendo with Smith’s longing vocals.”

We recently wrote that she’s green signed with New York City’s Photo Finish Records and they released “Graze” as the new single.

We saw Wilder Woods in April 2023 and wrote, “Wilder Woods took the stage with a rip-roaring, foot-stomping, hand-clapping set that was one part neo-soul, one part gospel revival with a lot of Southern rock. Rinehart kicked off the evening with “Light Shine In” and kept the evening going in with an endless amount of energy, only dialing it back with songs like “Patience”, “Heavenly Light” and his personal favorite from his new album, “Make Your Own Mistakes”, a love letter to his sons. Rinehart said Minneapolis has a special place in his heart for he played the Varsity fourteen years before and it was after that concert that he met Minneapolis native, Tyler Burkum, who would go on to become his lead guitarist and wingman. He said it took a couple of years of courting to woo Burkum. He said he wished he would have had a better pickup line at the start.”

Although .… It was We Heart Music’s first visit to a new music venue and we were happy with the fact that we could park right around the corner and the parking was free. Cloudland Theater opened in October of 2023, a DIY project from former musicians of the band the Soviettes, they being Maren Macosko and Brad Lokkesmoe. It’s not really a theater nor is it a bar. It is a small music venue on Lake Street that still retains the vestiges of the former tenant, an architecture firm with the place being clean, airy, open with great sightlines to the cozy stage. The reason Macosko and Lokkesmoe built the venue is to give up-and-coming bands a place to play after COVID and the George Floyd riots laid claim to venues like Triple Rock and Hexagon. The sold-out show started early with she’s green taking the stage at 6:30. They are a local band. The Current described their sound as: “... salve for those who want to feel understood and connected in a distorted world.” She’s Green (27 Sep 2023) We caught she’s green in September last year at the Turf Club. They were also one of the Best New Bands of 2023 at First Avenue’s annual concert. They are Zofia Smith on vocals, Liam Armstrong and Raines Lucas on guitar, Teddy Nordvold on bass and Kevin Seebeck on drums. Joining Russin on stage were Connor Morin on guitar, Nicole Dao on keys and Jonas Farah on drums. They are on the road to supporting their third album, Rationale, which was released in February of this year. And since most of the songs were under two minutes, the band dipped into songs from previous albums Looking Through the Shades and Life Is Not a Lesson. Then before anyone knew it, Russin announced the last song would be “Are You Sure.” So the crowd quickly started to form a mosh pit, but as it started to reach a feverish pitch, the song was over. Cloudland Theater

Cloudland Theater is a new concert venue in Minneapolis (opened in October 2023). It’s close to the Hook & Ladder and south-east of Eagles #34 and The Cabooze.

Looking at photos of the interior, it looks like Cloudland is more like a small street café. Capacity is 150, but it looks like there’s a little more room in the open-air back portion of the venue.

We’ve never been there before, but it looks like a nice, intimate venue to see your favorite bands.

Lead vocalist Aislinn Ritchie adds, “‘foreversoon’ represents blissful moments of new love and intimacy. The song harnesses melancholy chords, layered with fuzzy red melodies and gliding guitars that pull you in deeper. I wanted my lyrics to feel like a conversation that expresses my infatuation and sensuality. Time is relentless and memories are fleeting, this song encapsulates those emotions forever.”

Local She’s Green will be third band on the bill. We caught the band in 27 Sep 2023, and mentioned, “Local shoegazing band she’s green, featuring Zofia on vocals, Teddy on bass, Liam on guitars, Raines on guitars, and Kevin on drums, opened the show. Although, according to Zofia, the group is from the area, but it was their first time playing the Turf Club. We’ve previously mentioned their Minneapolis shows, such as in August 2023 or January 2022 … but never mentioned they’ve played St Paul. The group is still relatively new, so they’re introducing some new songs, such as “Clobber”. At least that’s the title they currently agreed on. Their debut EP, Wisteria came out in June 2023.”
