Back in April, we mentioned that this indiepop/dream pop Canadian band, Young Galaxy, was releasing their fourth studio album called Ultramarine.
The Vancouver band is finally on tour in America in support of the album, stopping by Minneapolis' 7th Street Entry.
Originally, I wasn't going to stop in the 7th Street Entry until after my prior commitment of the sold-out Savages show, but after talking to a fan at the show, he convinced me to at least check out Ghost in the Water. I was glad I stopped in a little early, because this is a catchy electro/pop duo of Nathan and Mandy Tensen Woolery.
Despite recovering and/or experience a cold, the two managed to play a few tracks from their Destroy album, including "Venom", "Getaway", "Wolf", "Fight", "Science", etc.
Young Galaxy's setup featured a projector attached to a laptop, displaying some bright patters on their poor drummer. The rest of the band, at least the way the stage is formed, were in a very dimly lit part of the stage.
As you can see from their setlist, the band mostly did songs from Ultramarine (such as "Pretty Boy", "Sleepwalk With Me", "In Fire", "Privileged Poor", "Hard to Tell", "Fall for You"), ending on the very excellent dancey "New Summer".
Singer Catherine McCandless, when not looking serious, does occasional dance and jump around, as you can see from the photograph below.
A very quick stage exit and suddenly the audience started demanding for an encore. And sure enough, Young Galaxy is back on stage to do a rendition of Erasure's "A Little Respect". I knew the song right away as soon as the first few lines were sung, but I think it was lost on the younger fans who looked confused at this late 80s classic.
Young Galaxy is currently touring North America in support of Ultramarine.
