Lovefoxxx tells so many wonderful little stories about the band. For example, the first time she went to the audition for CSS, she was wearing a Motorhead T-Shirt (because she liked the design). She didn’t know any of their songs, except for “Ace of Spades”, and she had a fear that the band would question her about Motorhead. Thankfully, no one bothered to mention about the shirt.
She then asked the audience if they could name five other Motorhead songs… of course, no one in the audience could muster up an answer.
For the introduction of “Teenage Tiger Cat”, Lovefoxxx explained that when she was young, she used to write songs about sex … but as she got older, she would write songs about cats.
Throughout the show, Lovefoxxx removed layers of clothing, starting with a baggy black cover to a yellow puffy jumpsuit, to a white T-Shirt, to a full body leotard. It was fun to watch her transform, and it just tells me that the band put a lot of thought and stage presence to their shows.
For the encore, Lovefoxxx tells us the secret origin of “I Wanna Be Your J.Lo”. Apparently, the band wanted to do a cover of Sleater-Kinney’s “I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramones”, but she didn’t know the lyrics… so she threw in Jennifer Lopez’s “Jenny from The Block” with some rap lyrics to make “I Wanna Be Your J.Lo” truly a CSS classic.
CSS is so fun to see live. If you’ve never seen them, you need to see them on this tour, as it could be the last time we see the band.
