Singer-songwriter
Dreamer Boy is touring in support of his new album
Lonestar, available via slowplay / Capitol Records.
Talking about his new single, “Baby Blue,” Dream Boy explains, “I think falling in love can happen over years, over weeks, or in a moment. I feel like this album was exploring my relationship with romance, modern romance. Hard truths leading to real heartbreak, and also ambient relationships that feel like they still linger somewhere in your soul forever. Not so black and white.”
Tennessee-based
Mercury (Maddie Kerr) to open. Mercury's new song “Born in Early May” will be available in June, just in time for her support for Dreamer Boy.

Pixies and Modest Mouse
with Cat Power
at Surly Brewing Festival Field
first-avenue.com
It’s really the perfect line up for this outdoor venue at the Surly Brewing Festival Field. We got two heavy-hitters of Pixies and Modest Mouse and Cat Power … all crowd favorites.
Pixies (11 Oct 2014)
|
We’ve seen all these bands before, with
Pixies in
Oct 2014 and said, “Of course, I was excited to hear that the Pixies reformed in 2004. I tried to get a ticket to their first gig was at Minneapolis' Fine Line Café for April 13, but it immediately sold out. Ten years later, the Pixies triumphantly returned to Minneapolis to another sold out show at the State Theatre.”
Modest Mouse (11 Jun 2023)
|
We last saw
Modest Mouse in
Jun 2023 and wrote, “Modest Mouse has managed to carry...err, Float On, despite the devastating death of their drummer Jeremiah Green at the end of last year (we caught the band last Sept w/Green and in December without), with the sun emerging from cloudy skies, just as the band took to the stage. Latest LP is still 2021’s The Golden Casket, with a supposed 9-track follow-up EP, due soon and their hour-long set would wrap with 2004’s “The World At Large “and singer Isaac Brock crooning, “My thoughts were so loud.””
Cat Power (vuart)
|
Cat Power to open. She does allow photos, so there’s some vuart for you. We saw her at the
Fitzgerald in March 2024 and noted, “The idea of this concert came from Cat Power’s love for Bob Dylan and her obsession of Bob Dylan’s “Royal Albert Hall Concert” in 1966 (which is actually a mislabeled bootleg for the Dylan’s Manchester Free Trade Hall in May 1966). The famed original performance saw Dylan playing a traditional acoustic and harmonica set… but then, midway in his show, he switched to electric - and that drew a lot of outrage from the purists in the crowd, who did not want their rock ‘n’ roll in their folk.”

Middle Kids (03 Oct 2021)
|
We saw Middle Kids in
03 Oct 2021 and wrote, “He jokingly asked what city he was in, and feign ignorance in what day it was. The truth is that this was his first tour, at least that’s what he tells us, and I’m assuming he was really excited to be playing in Minneapolis at the sold out Fine Line.”
Gordi (04 June 2016)
|
Gordi to open. We saw the Australian singer in
June 2016 and noted, “Gordi (not to be confused with the 80s Yugoslav heavy metal band of the same name), is from the Australian town of Canowindra (currently based in Sydney, Australia). Since Gordi is touring in support of her debut EP Clever Disguise (Jagjaguwar), this was her first time in Minneapolis, and they seemed really pleased at the turnout. Her songs are quiet, luckily the audience was respectful and listened to the folky (with a touch of electronica) songs. ”

Singer/songwriter
Peter Bradley Adams is back in town, touring in support of
With A Face Like Mine. The record includes songs written and composed from around the world, from Alabama to India.
We reviewed his album
Leavetaking in
Aug 2008 and wrote, “Peter Bradley Adams' new album, Leavetaking, which was just released on August 5th by Seattle's Sarathan Records, is a lovely album of straightforward singer/songwriter music in the alt-country tradition of the aforementioned John Prine or The Jayhawks. Adams was once one-half of the duo eastmountainsouth, but once their label DreamWorks tanked, Adams self-released a solo album, Gather Up, in 2006 and now, two years later, has released another album of music that will appeal to folkies and indie-rockers alike.”
