DRAGONETTE
at 7th Street Entry
Monday, 12/05/16, 7pm ($15) first-avenue.com
We’ve seen the Canadian band Dragonette a couple of times and can tell you that they are a really fun dance electropop trio. At the height of their popularity when they released Bodyparts, they were performing on Good Morning America and collaborated with such acts like Kaskade, Galantis, Big Data, Martin Solveig, etc.
Now the trio is back with their fourth studio album Royal Blues.
New York’s Gibbz (aka Mike Gibney and was last seen in Minneapolis on February 2016) will open the show. He has an upcoming EP called Oh My God, due out on December 16th. This may be a great way of checking him out before he tackle his first headlining tour in 2017.
P.S., My favorite all-time Dragonette song is called ‘Hello’, which is actually a collaboration with French DJ Martin Solveig.

The Canadian electronic band Dragonette made a stop at the First Ave Mainroom Wednesday night along with Australia's The Presets and the LA-based DJ’s Classixx.
From the time Dragonette came on stage to when they left, they were a highenergy electro-pop powerhouse. Playing songs mostly off their Bodyparts album (Universal Music Canada) released this past September, and mixing in some songs off their past albums they gave a great performance.
Martina Sorbara (vocals) danced throughout the whole show, and her powerful energy was felt through the crowd and they were jumping right along with her. During "Hello", the crowd belted every line of the song she did with French producer/DJ Martin Solveig.
THE PRESETS
They will be continuing their co-headlining US tour with The Presets. The Australian duo broke into the mainstream with their #1 album, Apocalypso, spawning six hit singles: "My People", "This Boy's in Love", "Talk Like That", "Yippiyo-Ay", "If I Know You" and "Kicking and Screaming". The Presets may have another hit album on their hands with their third full-length album, Pacifica, especially after their single, "Ghosts", was recently awarded "Single of the Year" (Reader's Choice) for the 4th annual Australian Rolling Stone Awards.
Tour Dates:
05/17 Granada - Lawrence, MO*
05/18 Ogden Theatre - Denver, CO*

Garbage premiered their new single, "Big Bright World", last week on VEVO. The song is the second European single after their #1 Alternative Rock album, Not Your Kind of People, which came out in May via their own STUNVOLUME record label. …
One of the most famous female-fronted bands from the 90s is Garbage, lead by Scottish singer Shirley Manson. I first discovered her through a short-lived band called Angelfish, which you can read about here.
Anyway, after their European tour cancellation in 2005, we thought we'd seen the end of Garbage. The band took a break and came back five years ago to release Absolute Garbage. Around this time, Shirley Manson became a fulltime cast member in great "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" series, so there wasn't a whole lot of touring or promotion around this time.
Luckily, last year, the band announced a new record called Not Your Kind of People and traditional tour dates! The band will be stopping by Minneapolis' Mill City Nights this Friday. If it all works out, we'll be covering them.
04/03/13 Chicago, IL Riviera Theatre
04/05/13 Minneapolis, MN Mill City Nights
04/06/13 Milwaukee, WI Eagles Ballroom
04/07/13 Madison, WI Orpheum Theater
04/09/13 St. Louis, MO The Pageant
04/10/13 Kansas City, MO Harrah's North Kansas
04/12/13 Las Vegas, NV Pearl Concert Theater
In other Garbage news, look for the band with Screaming Females will be releasing a special Record Store Day 2013 limited 10" on April 20th, featuring a cover of Patti Smith's "Because the Night" and two other tracks, "Automatic Systematic Habit Costa Cadeu Remix" (remixed by Beatport contest winner Konstantin Kazhev) and an original song called "Love Like Suicide".
Shirley Manson explains the teamup with Screaming Females: "This year we once again wanted to release something special in celebration of Record Store Day 2013. We decided to record the duet that we had been performing on tour with the Screaming Females towards the end of 2012. The SF flew across country from New Jersey to Los Angeles so we could record it all together at EastWest Studio 1 in Hollywood ; 2 drum kits, 2 bass rigs, 2 guitars, 2 microphones and 1 piano. No mean feat…. The song? A cover of Patti Smith’s “Because the Nightâ€.
Why? Because it’s awesome."

I was at Target today and saw The Band Perry's sophomore album Pioneer on the shelves. The thing that stuck out was there were limited autographed editions! I am assuming the band sat down and signed all those copies.
Anyway, if you were wondering this is a Nashville sibling trio with Kimberly Perry on vocals and guitar and her two brothers Reid Perry on bass and Neil Perry on drums.
The band is currently in the middle of a tour and they stopped by their hometown of Greeneville recently to perform in front of 25,000 fans! The autograph line was described as "stretched nearly a mile down Main Street." Yes, they are white hot with Pioneer hitting #1 iTunes Country chart.
Neil Perry commented on the event, "We are so humbled by the show of support from our hometown, as well as our fans that traveled so many miles - and our neighbors just down the street - to see the show! We had a great time signing CDs for everyone who braved the crisp night air waiting to meet us and say hello. And to have Governor Haslam recognize us as we came home, what an incredible honor."

The Y Axes a female-fronted indie pop/synth rock quintet from San Francisco. They self-proclaimed themselves as "a couple scientists and tech geeks".
Their new EP, Moon Rock, came out last month (March 20th). They wrote that their soundcloud is free, but it is not. Instead, you might have to go their bandcamp or look to amazon.com.
Electro-pop group Lolove's PledgeMusic just hit 99%, so the reality of recording their EP is a real possibility. The Los Angeles band just played Minneapolis and is wrapping up their tour:

Canadian electropop trio, Dragonette, will be heading out on tour in support of their third studio album, Bodyparts.
Dragonette and the Knocks stopped by Minneapolis' Triple Rock Social Club last night, as part of their US tour. It was the first time either band has been in the city, and they were thrilled to play for us.
The Knocks
I've briefly mentioned The Knocks before, and I've complained that they didn't list a biography on their page (it's hard to write about a band when they're so cryptic). Anyway, I found out more about them now: this is a DJ duo of B-Roc and Jpatt, and they're basically mashup/remix DJs from New York. On paper, it sounds very simple what they do, but in reality, they're actually producing original content through pre-recorded samples, but also playing drums, keys, and even vocals (although sometime this seems more like karaoke.)
They started off their set with "R.O.Y.L." (rest of your life) and medley in, what seems like, an endless mix of music. Sometime I can pick out Fatboy Slim or the Killers, but since the DJ/remix culture is lost on me, I honestly didn't know their source material. It certainly didn't matter to the dancing bodies last night; they were eating everything The Knocks were handing out.
Dragonette
As for Dragonette, it's clear to me that this Canadian trio has been doing this kind of electro-dance music for a while now, and they know the secret formula of getting their fans to dance. It's very catchy and singer Martina Sorbara looks great on stage. Once in a while she plays bass, but it's usually just her dancing with a microphone.
As you can see from the setlist, half of the set were from their forthcoming Bodyparts album ("Riot," "Live in This City,"
"My Legs," "Run Run Run," "My Work Is Done," "Let It Go," "Rocket Ship," etc), while the rest were taken from their two previous albums, Galore and Fixin to Thrill.
By the very end of the night, they pretended that they have exhausted their arsenal of songs. It's cute, but we all know they were saving a hit song… and the final song was "Our Summer."
Dragonette is currently on tour to promote their third album, Bodyparts, which is coming out September 25th. If you were hoping to purchase the album before its official release date, you are out of luck because they've sold all their CDs on this tour.

It's hard to believe that it's been six years since the band was in the USA. The good news is that they are doing just a handful of US dates in support of their new album, Words and Music by Saint Etienne. Unfortunately, it might be a while before I see the beautiful Sarah Cracknell since they're not playing anywhere near me.
Words and Music by Saint Etienne will come in standard and double-disc deluxe set from Universal Music Enterprises.

10/25 Washington, DC - U Street Music Hall
10/26 New York, NY - Webster Hall

If you missed Dragonette's "Let It Go" on Good Morning America, you can see them on abcnews.go.com.
UPDATE: I am a big cover lover of cover artwork, and I love Dragonette's album art for Bodyparts. I couldn't help but poke a little fun at it with a new vuart.
Hopefully, if it all works out, we'll be covering the band at the Minneapolis date. All dates with (*) are with The Knocks, a band that doesn't seem to have a website.
