THE CATALINA
with Whosah and Saint Harrison
at 7th St Entry
first-avenue.com
Minneapolis’ The Catalina will be playing the 7th Street Entry on September 15th. The band is influenced by ‘80s synth rock and loves The Police and The Night Game.
The Catalina writes:
We caught Whosah in June 2016 and wrote, “Opening up the show was Whosah, who was a very last minute addition to the bill. The five-piece (Spencer, Dallas, Dave, Mack, Nate) had a big pop sound. As we previously mentioned, they played tracks from their sophomore EP Work, including the lead single ‘Ghost Town’. Singer Spencer Grimes seemed comfortable on stage, doing high energy dance moves and singing to their upbeat music. I don’t think the band’s music can ever be described as depressing.”

MARK MALLMAN
with New Primals and SYM1
at 7th St Entry
first-avenue.com
Keyboard master, Mark Mallman will be playing the 7th Street Entry this September 18th.
Mallman started a Kickstarter campaign a special yellow 140-gram vinyl versions of Happiness. The vinyl version, remastered by Jesse Mangum, is being made by Kindercore Records, in Athens, GA. Happiness vinyl will be the perfect companion to Mallman’s memoir, The Happiness Playlist: The True Story of Healing My Heart With Feel-Good Music.
We recently mentioned that his song, “Flowers” was used on Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty, “The best part of the episode is actually Minneapolis-related. Apparently, during Morty’s “sex” scene, the song you hear, “Flowers” was by Ryan Elder and Mark Mallman! We’re very proud to see Mallman on one of our favorite shows.”
Here’s Mallman with local legends Har Mar Superstar at the Turf Club in 2009, “If I had half his energy, I would explode.”
New Primals (not to be confused with New Primitives) and SYM1 (formerly Symone Smash It) to open.
