CNN wrote that concerts cancellations and postponements will be commonplace due to COVID-19 as Adele fights back tears when she announced her Las Vegas residency shows had been postponed.

According to On Gametime, the leading app/site for last minute tickets, two tickets to Adele’s show at Caesars Palace were going for over $96,950 (each seat is $48,475) including service fees.

We are happy to brag that we saw Adele, front row seat, for $17.50 in June 2008. No one knew who she was at the time, having only just released her debut album 19. She actually didn’t have enough songs to fill out a full headliner show, so she threw in four cover songs, including Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love” and Sam Cooke’s “That’s It I Quit I’m Movin’ On”.

Anyway, it’s sad to see the Adele cancellations, but this isn’t anything new to us, as we have experienced many last-minute cancellations since venues re-opened in July 2021 (Horsegirl at 7th Street Entry).

If you have a show booked this or next month, I suggest you check with the venue or the band’s social media accounts.

Recently, The Black Angels had to announce their show cancellation/postponement. Here is the message:

We're very sad to announce that we have to postpone our upcoming tour due to ongoing concerns and uncertainty about the spread of Covid-19. We will be announcing the rescheduled dates very soon, so please hold on to your tickets and they will be honored for the rescheduled shows. Well, this is no way to start the new year--

“Postponed” seems to be the word for many shows, no thanks to the Omicron variant and record-high infections, but the silver lining is most shows are being delayed and not completely canceled. 

Thankfully, a few events have carried on, including most comedy dates, and we could all use a good laugh at the moment.  Highlight of the month is undoubtedly the solid triple-bill with Kacey Musgraves, King Princess, and MUNA at T-Mobile Center and (as of this writing) the Elton John show there, scheduled for Feb 1 (after a July 2020 delay) is still on, so there’s plenty of hope and things to look forward to.  Stay safe!

Given the current public health state, assume masks and/or vaccination proof are required for entry.

Just in time for our favorite holiday, Halloween, Minneapolis band Early Eyes released “Halloween ‘18”, the single from their forthcoming debut album Look Alive!, set for release on February 25 via Epitaph Records.

“We made ‘Halloween 18’ because we wanted to make the next Halloween chart-topping single, influenced by Ari Aster, James Wan, Sasquatch, and a zombie with no conscience.” Explains vocalist Jake Berglove. “We wrote the majority of the song in memoriam of the ghost of a Halloween party that happened in 2017, but ‘Halloween Seventeen’ wasn’t the right amount of syllables…”

We caught the band at Basilica Block Party in July 2018, and wrote, “Early Eyes is a name new to many, the Minneapolis indie-pop/rock quintet only becoming a band in late 2016, but they’ve already attracted Hippo Campus-like buzz from very early-on.  Second EP, Decorating, is just out and songs like the title track and ‘Feathers’ suggest a youthful energy and musical statement that the band has a lot more to say, and they also were fun and engaging live (and easy to see, with two of the five in bright-yellow t-shirts).”

Local classic rock station KQRS is celebrating Janis Joplin’s birthday, in this 15th Anniversary show at First Avenue.

In Joplin news, Genesis Publications, working with the Janis Joplin estate, releaesd a limited edition, personal scrapbook Janis Joplin: Days & Summers - Scrapbook 1966-68. The book chronicles Joplin’s meteoric rise to fame.

The book was made possible because Janis, started a personal record of her journey and the flowering of Sixties counterculture in which she was to play a lead role.

Thanks to her, we get to see various posters, souvenirs, press clippings, and photographs, that would have been lost to the passage of time. The book also features nearly 40 contributors includes Big Brother bandmates Peter Albin and Dave Getz, Jefferson Airplane members Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen, musicians Mick Fleetwood, Chrissie Hynde, Tom Jones, Taj Mahal, Michelle Philips and Jimmy Page, talk show host Dick Cavett, as well as siblings Laura and Michael Joplin.

Coming to Mystic Lake Casino is O.A.R., as part of their “The Mighty O.A.R. 2019 Tour”. The last time we saw these rockers, it was at the Basilica Block Party in 2015: “Rockville, MD quartet O.A.R. is very familiar with the Basilica stage and has also done several promotional appearances for Cities 97, so their inclusion to headline the Preferred One stage on Day One, seemed a natural fit. Singer Marc Roberge and band were so “in the zone” playing that they didn’t break until after the sixth song, with Roberge remarking “I always forget to say 'Hi 'because we love playing so much”.”

You know our favorite act at Rock the Garden this year was Heart Bones, featuring Har Mar Superstar and Sabrina Ellis. Well, Ellis is also in A Giant Dog … and they’re playing the 7th Street Entry on Sunday, August 4th.

If I was a betting man, I would put some money that Har Mar will show up at A Giant Dog’s show.
