A little laid back for the upcoming holiday weekend, though the typical return of Irish Fest can fill your weekend plans, with Guinness, Shepherd’s Pie, and the most of the usuals playing live. Or, if you rather unpack your glow sticks and light-up hula hoops, Dancefestopia takes over most of the week, in a remote area in the south metro.
Let’s take look at the Kansas City / Lawrence KS metro musical happenings from September 1st-6th.
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 1
KC Irish Fest Sept 1-3, Crown Center,$30+
Dedicated to promoting the culture, music, character and history of Ireland and of the Irish people who call Kansas City home. Kansas City Irish Fest offers attendees the chance to see some of the top Irish-themed entertainment which includes 150 performers over 7 stages- Gaelic Storm, Red Hot Chili Pipers, The Elders, and more. Everything from Irish culture- shops, beverages, food and activities using Irish themes and traditions can be experienced as well.
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 2
Memphis May Fire w Catch Your Breath, Another Day Dawns, The Bottleneck- Lawrence, $25-$28
The Denton TX metalcore band (Matty Mullins, Kellen McGregor, Cory Elder, and Jake Garland) makes anthems for the broken, confronting anxiety, violence and more in songs like “Bleed Me Dry,” “Death Inside,” “Only Human,” and “The Fight Within”. evoke the cathartic bombast of the band’s best-known songs, a return to their roots with the seasoned polish earned through years of touring and making music together.
Catch Your Breath is from Austin, TX and the alt-metalcore band combines synth soundscaping, imaginative production, and refined songwriting to their harder sound. New single is “Y.S.K.W” (you should know why) and full-length is the debut album, Shame on Me.
Arrive early for PA band Another Day Dawns (singer Dakota Sean, guitarist Tyler Ritter, bassist Jerome Betz, and drummer Nick McGeehan) have a new album, Finding Peace Through All the Noise, (out October 6 via Century Media), with single "Hesitate." out now.

Dancefestopia feat Zed's Dead, Excision, Subtronics, Sept 4-10, $179+

The high-energy music, arts & camping festival features 200+ artists, five stages, art installations, and more, still a 100% local independently operated and funded.
Shinedown, Papa Roach, Spiritbox, T-Mobile Center, $39.50-$125.00
Only the second date (after StL) of this fall leg of The Revolutions Live Tour, the run will go 26 dates around the country. Shinedown’s single “A Symptom of Being Human” recent went into the Top 25 at Hot AC Radio. Following their #1 at Active Rock song, “Dead Don’t Die.”
The band has also partnered with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to donate $1 for every ticket sold. Still not at their “Last Resort”, Papa Roach continues to carry on, and Vancouver rockers Spiritbox will get things started.

Poppy / Pvris, The Truman, $39-$80
Why is this not sold-out yet? The eclectic pair, both with very loyal followings, have teamed up together to announce The Godless/Goddess Tour. PVRIS posted a photo on Twitter with the caption: “PVRIS and Poppy invite you to The Godless/Goddess Tour across North America this summer.”
Poppy’s ‘Church Outfit’ came out recently, marking a new era for the singer – straying away from her previous metal sound and into the world of electro-dance. PVRIS recently announced details of their fourth album and have shared first single ‘Good Enemy’, with front woman Lynn Gunn saying, “I’ve been trying to think less in terms of eras, and just [on] what’s happening in the moment.
3 Doors Down w Candlebox, Starlight, $39.50-$125.00
Post-grunge rockers 3 Doors Down will bring their hard and alternative rock back to KC and have kept regularly touring since their breakout hit "Kryptonite" in 2000. Their debut album, "The Better Life," sold six million+ copies and led to a number of hits, including "Here Without You" as well as hits "Let Me Go" and "When I’m Gone". Arrive early for Candlebox, who just put out their eighth and final album, The Long Goodbye (feat single, “Punks”) as they are set to retire following the tour.
