Two-time Grammy nominee Madison Cunningham is back in the Twin Cities, this time to promote her new album Revealer, set to release on September 9 on Verve Forecast.
Revealer finds Cunningham working once again with Mike Elizondo (Twenty One Pilots, Gary Clark Jr.) as well as longtime producer and collaborator Tyler Chester and Tucker Martine (Neko Case, Sufjan Stevens).
We caught the singer in Oct 2021 and wrote, “As part of the promotion for the Madison Cunningham concert, the show was recorded and broadcast on local radio station The Current… but as you can see from the setlist, it’s missing about half the set. The show was also special, for the fact, that it was Madison Cunningham’s post-birthday show (her birthdate was Oct 14).”
Bendigo Fletcher to open.

Joyce Manor

To be perfectly honest, I only wanted to talk about this Joyce Manor show, because they have a new album called 40 Oz to Fresno (Epitaph Records), which I smiled when I saw the title. You see, I used to live in Fresno, California, it’s somewhat of a pitstop between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Not many people pay much attention to this small city. Fresno is actually a big city… but it doesn’t really offer what a big city would offer.
Anyway, a tip of the hat to Joyce Manor for their tribute to Fresno.
Show up early to check out Citizen, Prince Daddy & the Hyena, and PHONY.

Sleigh Bells

Originally scheduled in Feb 2022, this show has been rescheduled for August 6.
After a string of 10th Anniversary shows for their Treats album, Sleigh Bells (vocalist Alexis Krauss and guitarist/producer Derek Miller), announced a full 2022 tour.
We saw the duo in Sep 2016 and wrote, “Sleigh Bells is known for their unique sound and high-energy shows. They played to a full house on Saturday night at the Fine Line Music Café in Minneapolis and proved that nothing has changed. Their songs are upbeat and powerful. They mix elements of punk rock with indie-pop and almost electronic beats. All of the diverse elements come together perfectly and when you mix that with the energy Krauss brings to the stage and the extreme light show, you get a near perfect show.”

Originally scheduled in Feb 2022, the show was moved to August 6th.
Jilian Medford, aka Ian Sweet (no relations to Matthew Sweet), is returning to the 7th Street Entry this August 6th, with support from Chicago quartet Bnny.
Ian Sweet’s 2021 album is called Show Me How You Disappear. The album was praised far and wide, with Pitchfork writing that it’s “bigger, brighter, cleaner, [and] more ambitious than anything she’s done...The album scales heights and punches the air upon reaching them, and the best songs swell in your chest like prime-era Broken Social Scene.”
