I got a few tour date announcements, but since I'm limited to space here, you're going to have to go to The Slits help Chloe Sevigny celebrate new clothing line and tour US // Mika Miko, Neptune, Quintron to read the full article. I'll just be summarizing on some of the bands that I'm familar with.
So the first item on there is that The Slits to help Chloe Sevigny's new clothing line. If you like any Riot Grrls you know that many of these bands were hugely influenced by The Slits, an early 80s punk band from London.
I actually had no idea they were back together until I saw that they're
going on tour and will be helping out the actress Chloe Sevigny (who
many of you have probably seen her in the movie, Boys Don't Cry).
Speaking of punk grrls, I noticed that Mika Miko are also doing a few dates. Although I never picked up their C.Y.S.L.A.B.F. album, I was interested in them enough to grab a free MP3 from Kill Rock Star's website last year when the album was released.
I noticed that KRS have started their own blog, which isn't necessary just about music.
The other items are: Neptune launched their tour to support their new album, Guns Are For Kids to finish up on new record, and The May Fire to play Noise Pop '08.
The last item on the press release is that Quintron are on tour with Black Lips. I did get a chance to quickly listen to their EP Jamskate.
It sounds like a video game song done with an organ. There's two
version of the "Jamskate" song on the EP, an instrumental version and
the one with lyrics. Although I like the instrumental, I think it is
kind of naked without the cool lyrics:
Steal our music and sell it like a whore
But when we're out on the floor, rolling around
Everything is alright like life on a cloud
We're going to jam! Jamskating
The actual cover art is black and white (as pictured), but I like this yellow cover.

Press Release

One of the most unfriendly radio band name is Fuck Buttons. They're basically two experimental DJs of Andrew Hung & Benjamin John Power from Bristol and Street Horrrsing will be released March 18th, 2008.
A full
review will be done later, I've only quickly listened to it, but first
impression is that I think they're designed more as a live band than a
studio recording band.
Street Horrrsing Tracklist
1. Sweet Love For Planet Earth
2. Ribs Out
3. Okay, Let's Talk About Magic
4. Race You to my Bedroom - Spirit Rise
5. Bright Tomorrow
6. Colours Move
The record is being released by ATP/R, which is the same company responsible for the Sold-Out My Bloody Valentine
shows in June. I believe the actual pressed CD will not contain the
band's logo or title, based on the images I've seen of the non-promo
copies.
Finally, The White Stripes are releasing Conquista
EP, which is their Spanish version of "Conquest". Since I don't
actually have "Conquista", I thought I'd display their english
"Conquest" for you to listen.
I haven't
heard the original Patti Page version (written by Corky Robbins), but I
am assuming The White Stripes brought their own southern-rock flavor to
it. They even released the song as a single from Icky Thump (2007) as they felt so strongly about this song.
The song did really well, reaching #2 on the Billboard charts (according to their press release)... it should be interesting to see how well they do with the Spanish audience as they're scheduled to appear on Pesi Musica.
So far, the
White Stripes are nominated for 4 Grammys at Sunday's 50th Annual
Grammy Awards, including "Best Alternative Album" for Icky Thump, "Best Rock Song" for the song "Icky Thump" and "Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group."
On a side note, I noticed that the two are selling a two cameras: the JACK Holga and MEG Diana. Each is retailed for $150-180 and only 3,000 custom cameras were produced.
What I find
fascinating is that these are FILM cameras, not digital. I haven't used
a film camera in so long, I've always thought they had discontinued
film altogether.
