THE CREEPY CRAWLIES
thecreepycrawlies.com
If you don't know 'creepy crawlies' often refers to spiders, but having listened to the album, I think it's in reference to "Mollie the Maggot".
The Creepy Crawlies is an indie pop duo from California. If you like that sort of thing, you'll love this band, lots of boy-girl singing action and pleasant hooks and melodies. When you listen to them, you'll have to agree to "let those bad feelings get buried again".
Their album, Get Buried! comes out April 10th, with an album release party scheduled for April 28th at CIA in Los Angeles, followed by a trip to Tin Can Ale House in San Diego on the 29th.
COWBOY JUNKIES
cowboyjunkies.com
Toronto's Cowboy Junkies has been around since the mid-80s. I'm happy to see that the band is still around, having seen them live at the old Guthrie Theater around 2000. In 2010, the band started their Nomad Series with Renmin Park, followed by Demons and Sing in My Meadow. Their fourth and final Nomad release is called, The Wilderness, and was released last week (March 27, 2012).
The band continues their USA tour:
DEAD DOG
deaddog.yolasite.com
According to their biography, they like eating hot dogs and love cats. Their self-titled album will be given a new special treatment with bonus tracks via This Will Be Our Summer Records (who I recently saw one of their artist, The Wedding Present). While we're at it, Bastards of Fate's Limited Edition for Who's a Fuzzy Buddy? is available for preorder. The cover features a grey cat.
Anyway, look for Dead Dog on the road:

BRIEFLY:
thecult.us The Cult's first single for their album, Choice of Weapon, is called "For the Animals" and is currently available for download on iTunes and Amazon (oddly enough, the Amazon cover artwork is different). | ravensandchimes.com Ravens & Chimes' sophomore album, Holiday Life, came out today (April 3rd) via Better Looking Records. Look for the album release party to be on April 17th at The Mercury Lounge in New York. |
facebook.com/HillsLikeElephants Hills Like Elephants' album, The Endless Charade, came out last week (March 27). The album is described as an album about "girl troubles" and plays like Motown with drum machines. Sounds delightful. Some live dates: April 13 - The Whistle Stop - San Diego, CA April 26 - Bar Pink - San Diego, CA | cheerselephant.com Cheers Elephant's album, Like Wind Blows Fire, will be out April 24th. The band is described to sound "rootsy psychedelic pop", from Philadelphia. The band just wrapped up their SXSW and various tours, you can read all about it on their Tumblr page. |
facebook.com Although this record label, Create/Control, is new, they've already announced co-releasing Metric's new album Synthetica and signing The Jungle Giants. Their latest artist under their belt is called Opossom (a deliberate misspelling of the opossum, which is slightly different from possum). Anyway, Opossom is New Zealander Kody Nielson, and he will be releasing his debut album, Electric Hawaii, in June, under Create/Control. | checkyoponytail.com Loads of sponsors (IHEARTCOMIX, Media Contender, The Echo and Spin) for the "Check Yo Ponytail 2" show. Artists on board include Light Asylum, Chelsea Wolfe, Tearist, Violet Tremors and Slow Motion DJS. Tuesday, May 15 @ Echoplex. Actually, looking at their website, it looks like it's a whole month of parties. |
