GWAR stopped by First Avenue in Minneapolis last night as part of their "Fate or Chaos Tour."
Opening for GWAR on tour:
Legacy of Disorder: This is a great way to introduce a rare musical export. This is an amazingly tight four-piece metal band from New Zealand. These guys have so much heart; you can feel it in their set. There are not many bands that can get a crowd moshing when it's an early afternoon on a Sunday. Relatively unknown in the States, these guys thrash hard, a band that you should keep an eye on.
Cancer Bats:
A Canadian metal band with hints of punk surprises the crowd with a cover of Sabotage by the Beastie Boys. Amazing stage performance.
DevilDriver: Coming in from the West Coast is California's own DevilDriver, best known for vocalist Dez Fafara from Coal Chamber fame. Gaining an amazing fan base since 2002, all the fans knew the lyrics while pumping their fist with metal horns.
GWAR: GWAR fans know what to expect when they see a live GWAR show. Whether it be covered in bile and blood, or stage props that could be used in any top tier horror movie. Additionally, no two GWAR shows are the same. I've seen them a handful of times, and each time they have different story lines and different things to maim. The GWAR props department is stuff of legends.
Last time GWAR was in Minneapolis, they lost Flattus Maximus (Cory Smoot) RIP. No one knew how long these Rock Gods would take to reform, because even a metal genius would have some mighty big shoes to fill. Luckily, GWAR doesn't miss a beat. Brent Purgason (Pustulus Maximus) from Cannabis Corpse fame is there to reassure everyone that GWAR is here to stay, whether you like it or not. GWAR plays old favorites "Sick of You" and "War Ghoul." On a more somber note, GWAR covered Kansas's "Carry On My Wayward Son" dedicated to Cory Smoot.
GWAR is currently on their "Fate or Chaos 2012 Tour" with Devil Driver, Cancer Bats, and Legacy of Disorder. Their last studio album, Bloody Pit of Horror, was released in 2010.
