THE FRONT BOTTOMS
with oso oso and Sydney Sprague
at First Avenue
first-avenue.com
New Jersey’s folk punk band The Front Bottoms will be stopping by First Avenue on October 13th, in support of In Sickness & in Flames (Fueled by Ramen).
Special guests oso oso and Sydney Sprague to open.
We caught the band in Oct 2016 and wrote, “The Front Bottoms was next, they seem to have taken the scene by storm with their real-life lyrics and their honest live shows. These guys don't try to be anything other than what they are and that makes their set feel real and full of conviction. The stage was set up to look more like a living room with floor lamps placed across the stage, a TV, and even a couch that was occupied by two random guys that sat there making drinks and nodding to the music throughout the set. The New Jersey group played through a ten and half song set (they stopped one song mid lyric due to someone getting injured and they ended up just scrapping the song altogether) and captivated the crowd the whole way through.”

JUNGLE
with Covey and Breakup Shoes
at Palace Theatre
first-avenue.com
British songwriting and production duo Jungle is back on tour to support their Loving In Stereo album.
Covey and Breakup Shoes to open.
We caught Jungle in Mar 2019 and noted, “ London neo-soul collective Jungle took to the stage for their eighty-seven minute headlining set. The band is out in support of second full-length For Ever (XL Recordings) and began with the two opening songs from that record, ‘Smile’ and Heavy, California’. Founded by frontmen Tom McFarland and Josh Lloyd-Watson, their mid-tempo lush retro funk/soul style is immediately apparent as the band is about establishing a groove, then maintaining and sustaining it throughout. Add to the fact that both usually sing in tandem (in a higher falsetto and often also along with their two backup singers) and you have a musical style that can be immediately identified as theirs.”

NOAH KAHAN
with Blake Rose
at First Avenue
first-avenue.com
Vermont singer and songwriter Noah Kahan will be headlining First Avenue on October 17th. Blake Rose to open.
The tour is in support of his new album I Was / I Am due out this month. On the album, Kahan said, “While writing this record, I’ve taken stock of who I am as compared to who I was when I started and what that means, for better or worse. I do have some perspective. I’ve also lost a lot. I’ve lost people close to me for different reasons. I’ve lost friendships. I lost my dog. Those experiences haven’t necessarily hardened me, but they’ve made me incredibly grateful for what I have now. The biggest change is a little bit of clarity in terms of who I am and the person I want to end up being. The songs on the record represent a new understanding of myself.”
