Sasquatch Music Festival is taking place this weekend.

The event creator Adam Zacks and Live Nation Northwest president Jeff Trisler have both received the Governor's Recognition Award for their outstanding accomplishments and innovative leadership in music!

Zacks and Trisler were on stage at the festival during a set by Pacific NW natives Built to Spill to receive the award with this message from Governor Jay Inslee:

I would like to take this opportunity to recognize Adam Zacks and Jeff Trisler, who started the Sasquatch! Music Festival 12 years ago. Today, Sasquatch! attracts more than 80,000 people each year from around the globe, providing a significant boost to the regional economy. This festival helps support the development of alternative independent music and embodies the independent spirit of music that our communities have long been known for.

One of the hottest bands this year is The Lumineers. You might recall that we covered the band last year in New Orleans. For a relatively 'new' band, I cannot believe they are playing the Target Center here in Minneapolis. This is a stadium-sized venue; very little bands that I cover can manage to pull off playing such a spacious arena.

Anyway, the Denver-based band is currently in the middle of their tour for their self-titled debut album.

Here is another super popular group: Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros.

I previously covered them when they played here last year at the Cabooze. The band is returning to the Cabooze this June 26th. Expect the show to sell out, as it did last year.

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros just kicked off their North American tour last night to support their new self-titled album, coming out July 23, 2013, via Community Music. Singer Alex Ebert said that this new album is so special to him: "These songs mean everything to me. It's the rawest, most liberated, most rambunctious stuff we've done."

Atlas Genius is on its way back to Minneapolis for the third time on June 4, this time playing a sold out show at the Fine Line. The Australian brothers Keith and Michael Jeffery are rounding up a series of U.S. tours before heading back to Australia for just-announced tour dates in July. With impossibly catchy songs like “Trojan” and “If So” they’re the type of band you’ve heard even if you haven’t heard of them just yet. Their second album “When it was Now” released early this year and is available on iTunes.

Apologies to Imagine Dragons, I had prior commitments and could not stay for their full set. It's apparent to me, hearing the sold out audience singing along to 99% of their Night Visions album, that these guys are well loved. According to their setlist, they played these songs in order: Intro, "Round & Round", "Amsterdam", "Tip Toe", "Hear Me", "Cha-Ching", "Rocks", "Radioactive", "30 Lives", "Bleeding Out", "Demons", "Underdog", "On Top Of The World", "It's Time", and encore of "Nothing Left To Say".

NICO VEGA

I actually had no idea Nico Vega was on the bill, but it was a pleasant surprise because I actually like these guys. This is my third time seeing them. Yes, Aja is shoeless on stage, and based on previous shows - this one was the best. Nico Vega had great energy and visually fun to watch and hear - although, talking to some Imagine Dragons fans, they didn't think Nico Vega's sound worked for them. Not everyone agreed, as I did overhear some fans being impressed with Aja.

As you can see from Atlas Genius' setlist, they tried to play all their songs off their recently released album, When It Was Now. Because of the limited thirty minute opener set, they had to drop off/cross off "Through The Glass". I suspect when the band comes back in June as headliner, that they will have plenty of room to breathe and will toss in other songs they have under their belt.

Although most of the audience didn't know Atlas Genius, it didn't stop them from dancing and handclapping to their music. Singer Keith Jeffery understandably kept banter to a minimum, but he sure knows how to manipulate the crowd (anytime you drop "Imagine Dragons" in your sentence, it's a huge cheer!).

If you missed out on Atlas Genius due to the sold out Imagine Dragons show, you can catch the Australian band again when they come back to Minneapolis at the smaller (but more intimate) Fine Line Music Cafe on June 4th. Be sure to check out their new album When It Was Now, out now, via Warner Bros. Records.

Remember how Rebecca tipped us on Imagine Dragons tickets are hot hot hot? Well, it's true: all their shows have sold out across the country.

Opening up for Imagine Dragons will be Australia's Atlas Genius for most dates. If you fail to get a ticket for the Minneapolis show on March 8th at the Varsity Theater - Atlas Genius is returning back in June! This is perfect, since by then, it'll be summer in the city and I'll be attending more shows.

So, anyway, Atlas Genius is from Adelaide, Australia. The band is currently signed to Warner Bros. Records and they just released Through the Glass EP last Summer.

The young band is about to explode in America. They're set to appear on Jimmy Fallon on February 19th - possibly to play "Trojans", their first single that sold more than 200,000+ copies (which are amazing numbers for an "unknown" band).

Atlas Genius' new song, "If So", can be heard on Soundcloud. The song is taken from their upcoming album, When It Was Now, to be released February 19th.
