Blu DeTiger Setlist

To enter show business and start a career as a musician one is almost required to alter his or her name. But what if you were anointed at the start? One would think Blu DeTiger is as real as ASAP Rocky. So would you be surprised that she was actually born with such a name?
First of all, pretty cool name. It’s also attached to a fine musician, one born in NYC, one who started playing bass at age 7 and even had two years at NYU’s Tisch School of Arts before deciding to try her luck in the industry. And based on the reception she received at the Fine Line, it looks like she made the right choice.
Henry Breen of the band Why Not opened the evening with a solo set on acoustic guitar. He mentioned it was the first time he had performed as a solo act and enjoyed the intimate setting of the venue as one could hear ice cube drop into a glass at the bar as he sang songs from his band’s cannon like “Faded”, “You’re My Kind” and “NYC”.
Breen is local musician and still picking up side gigs. He mentioned that he took a job to run a spotlight the night before and was shocked that it wasn’t an awards banquet but the DFL election post party.
Blu DeTiger took the stage next with her three-piece band and immediately turned music venue into a dance floor. It was her first time performing in Minneapolis and she seemed genuinely surprised by the immediate response she received from the crowd, even giving high fives to the crowd in between enjoyable and danceable songs like “Hot Crush Lover” and “Cotton Candy Lemonade”.
The music kept the crowd dancing, but it was fun just to watch DeTiger move about the stage with a bass that seemed just as long as her lanky body as she laid down a groove with hair flying in front of a crowd so in-tune that there seemed to be little separation.
One gentlemen in the front row – who was as tall as a college basketball player – highlighted this feeling. He stood there swaying like a tall willow tree, pointing towards DeTiger and singing along as if he was auditioning to be a backup singer when she makes her anticipated return.
