Acclaimed Swedish indie-pop band Peter Bjorn and John will be playing their breakout Writer’s Block album (the album with “Young Folks”) in its entirety, with this special US tour in May 2025. The tour will stop by the Fine Line, in Minneapolis, on May 16, 2025.

We saw the band in June 2016 and said, “Anyway, after a five-year break (their last album Gimme Some came out in 2011), to give room for various solo projects: Peter’s solo albums, Björn’s “Yttling Jazz”, and John’s project Hortlax Cobra. With all that out of the way and a fresh perspective, the trio is back with their catchiest album yet, Breakin’ Point. Joining the trio were new touring band members, Klaus and Freya, both doing various keys and extra percussions... which is reflective of Breakin’ Point’s synth-heavy new sound. We saw Larkin Poe in January 2023 and said, “The buzz over Nashville’s Larkin Poe has been palpable and growing louder, but this was the first time we've managed to catch talented sisters Rebecca & Megan Lovell live, to experience their own brand of Southern roots rock and blues, after hearing good things as they’ve headlined and also supported the likes of Bob Seger, Elvis Costello, and Keith Urban. Their prolific and impressive discography includes their newest, Blood Harmony (via Tricki-Woo Records) and their lively energetic eighty-five-minute set did not disappoint the sellout crowd, 2/3 of which were seeing them for the first time as well (per an informal show of hands).”

We saw Kiah in Nov 2024 and said, “She was naturally funny but alas, her smile is taken, her fiancé’s name is Jessica, who is a Taylor Swift fan, insert shameless plug of the album producer Butch Walker. She said her fandom was not one of a crazed “wear a diaper to get through a Swifty concert” but just enough to make her a bracelet made out of “Dark Matter” before she launched into the song. Other references to a family member included her father who whistled on a song on her second album. She was so proud of her TN relative because he had never done anything like that, a recording in a studio.”

Just sheer hours after the last Sound Unseen movie played at the Parkway, a talented local duo and solo artist Amythyst Kiah set up shop.

Annie Mack join on guitar by Mary Cutrufello started their set at 7:30, mindful of the time. She kept asking the crowd how many songs she had left, the intimate theater allowed for the audience to shout back at her “go ahead and play another” and “just one more!” She thought she had heard 7:15 when it was 7:50, spurning a science fiction inspired streams of consciousness thought process leading to how they were so good, they could turn back time.

Amythyst Kiah (on stage at 8:19 pm) sprinkled her set with similar hilarious (self-proclaimed) nerdy rants and pop culture references. The music, which was a combination of blues, folk, rock, country Americana was so lovely that I didn't catch the name of the movie she started describing, I believe a horror movie (since we are not far from Halloween) in a house with the babysitter as the ultimate hero who runs off with the groundskeeper. My friend turned to me to say she feels like she needs to see this movie. I responded, seems like I don’t need to. It’s a testament to the storytelling abilities Ms Kiah has, the plot was so engaging that the picture was painted in my imagination.

She has been touring all over to promote the new album, she spoke about when she was in Ireland, a room full of Caucasian people sang back to her “Black Myself.” She mused that she was not a coalminer’s daughter, yet that’s an awesome song and she could sing along. It’s “Tour From the Crypt” tour, featuring Today Murder by Death and Amigo The Devil. The tour will stop by First Avenue in Minneapolis on August 12th.

Opening will be Samantha Crain, who we just saw in May 2022, and wrote, “Samantha Crain opened the show. We’ve been writing about Crain since July 2008, describing her music as, “The Confiscation EP is a remarkable 5-song "music novella" with each song telling a different story; from the press release, Crain says, "Every second, everybody is being fulfilled or robbed, and when that happens, there is a story. Everybody has a story and they are stories of redemption or they are stories of betrayal."”

Nashville (and sometime Minneapolis) Laura Nicholson, now known as Lamb, will be headlining the 7th Street Entry this August 12.

The name change was only recent (as of June), so for many years, she was billing under her name Laura Nicholson. While I think it was the smart move to bill under a stagename, the name “Lamb” seems like a common word that might be hard to Google… and it also reminds me of Lady Lamb or Lamb of God, when I think of music.

However, I think the biggest challenge is that there’s also a Manchester duo called Lamb (producer Andy Barlow and singer-songwriter Lou Rhodes), that started in the 90s and still going strong (in fact, massive in Portugal).

Lake & Lyndale, obviously named after the street corner in Minneapolis, to open. We previously mentioned the cross streets (not the band) in 2009 as the location of the now defunct Sauce (aka Cause).
