Dilly Dally Alley (not to be confused with Canada’s Dilly Dally, who we saw in April 2016) is having their CD release show for their debut album Make You Whole at the Turf Club, in St Paul, on May 17th.
The band is singer Sophia Spiegel, keyboardist Will Kjeer, bassist Maxwell Voda, and drummer Kevin Yetter.
Freaque, Rabeca and PRINTS to open.

Japanese artist Hiromi is doing a two-night (four shows) residency at the Dakota Jazz Club in downtown Minneapolis. The classical and classical composer (often fused with rock-inspired or pop music) is touring in support of Silver Lining Suite.
Joining her on stage will be Hadrien Feraud, Gene Coye and Adam O’Farrill.
As with Dakota Jazz Club, we suggest you show up early to grab a bite to eat (the Dakota is a world class restaurant) or drink and wait for the band to come on stage. There will be an early and a late show.

Utah-via-Hawaii group The Moss will be headlining the 7th Street Entry on May 18th… this is after they recently appeared at various shows at SXSW. Their latest Insomnia EP is available on S-Curve / Hollywood Records.
The title track, “Insomnia” has become a breakout single for the band following major support from key Alternative radio outlets and cracking the Alternative Radio Top 20 at #17 and approaching 10M global streams with playlist support including Spotify (ALT NOW), Apple (ALT CTRL) + Amazon Music (Alternative Hits).
Update: Florida’s five-piece The Hails (Robbie Kingsley, Franco Solari, Dylan McCue, Andre Escobar and Zach Levy) has been announced as support for this show. Nashville-based Ron Pope is returning to Minneapolis… this time at the Parkway Theater on May 19th.
Nashville singer-songwriter Lydia Luce will open the show. Her latest EP Garden Songs came out in 2022, the follow-up to her LP Dark River.
Luce also created Lockeland Strings, a Nashville-based community arts organization and a showcase of local artists. They’ve been joined by Kacey Musgraves and Lucie Silvas, among others, and partner with nonprofits, including the ACLU of Tennessee, Girls Write Nashville and The Little Pantry That Could.

David Wax Museum is playing at the Icehouse on May 19, in support of the duo’s new album You Must Change Your Life (Nine Mile Records).
The album’s title comes from a near death experience when David Wax suffered a sudden and inexplicable collapse. “Lying there on that stretcher the thing that kept running through my mind was: at least we made You Must Change Your Life,” Wax recalls. “Whatever else happened, I felt at peace because this record exists.”

Los Angeles’ The Aquadolls is currently on tour in support of their upcoming album Charmed, set for release in June 2023. In the meantime, they recently released some singles, such as “Burn Baby Burn”, an arena style song.
Lead singer Melissa Brooks talked about the song: “If you’re in a mood to tear down the town, blast this song to feel like the ultimate bad bitch. Featuring a distorted guitar riff channeling the energy of ‘Take Me Away’ from the 2000s movie Freaky Friday and the powerhouse of The Hives’ ‘Tick Tick Boom’, this Chris Szcech recorded track will leave the listener feeling unstoppable.”

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Dave Mason is currently on tour in support of Mason, stopping by the Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis on May 20th. I know the official tour listing shows the Orpheum Theatre, but the venue’s website shows Pantages.
Joining Mason on this tour is longtime band member Johnne Sambataro on guitar and vocals, with Marty Fera on drums, Tony Patler on keyboard and vocals, and Ray Cardwell on bass and vocals.

Recently Y La Bamba released her single “Hues”, a song featuring Devendra Banhart. Lead vocalist and producer Luz Elena Mendoza Ramos talked about Banhart, “He was the first young Spanish-speaking musician that wasn’t playing traditional Mexican music I heard when I was 21. There was nothing like it around that time.”
Y La Bamba will be on tour in support of their seventh album, Lucha, stopping by the 7th St Entry in Minneapolis, on May 21st.
