Canadian indie-rock royalty
Sloan (not to be confused with
Sasha Sloan) is touring in support of their 13th studio album
Steady (Yep Roc Records). The album follows Sloan’s 2018
record 12 and marks the 30th anniversary of their beloved debut record
Smeared, originally released in October 1992.
Sloan at Turf Club (10 Oct 2014)
|
We saw Sloan in
Oct 2014 and wrote, “It only makes sense that my first show at the revamped Turf would be an evening with one of my favorite bands, Toronto’s finest, those mighty kings of sublime harmony: SLOAN. To my delight, there was no opening act, only Sloan themselves, rocking out for nearly 3 hours (with a short break in between sets, of course) and generously doling out gems from their back catalogue like they were giving out Halloween candy early. A good portion of the set was also dedicated to their new album Commonwealth and, uh, spoiler alert, those songs sounded f*cking amazing. New tracks can be a little tricky to play for the hit-hungry masses, but the chosen Commonwealth cuts were pretty much a slam dunk with this Friday night crowd.”
No opening act listed… although based on 2014’s show, they might not need one.

Losing Sleep.
The EP was produced by KOIL (Demi Lovato, Timbaland, Diddy, Sean Paul), and features
Jacob Luttrel on one track.
Trouw adds, “Musically, this EP represents the kind of genre blending that I am drawn to in the music of the artists I love. Collaborating with KOIL brought a new life to these songs I’ve worked on over the last couple years, as some kind of self therapy- they reflect on the lessons and growth experienced from relationships in my young adulthood.”

Rickie Lee Jones (with Mike Dillon) (28 Mar 2017)

We actually saw Dillon as the drummer for
Rickie Lee Jones’ band in
Mar 2017 and wrote, “Both played seventy-minute sets, with Rickie Lee Jones and sidemen Cliff Hines on electric guitar and Mike Dillon on percussion taking the stage at the Ames Center in suburban Burnsville first, spread out among two large rugs on the floor and a grand piano behind them. The appreciative crowd averaged older and was respectful to the music, (thankfully) shushing anyone that started up a conversation during a song.”
Mike Dillon & Punkadelick’ album
Inflorescence is out now on Royal Potato Family.
