Johnny Marr and James
at Palace Theatre
first-avenue.com
Manchester’s greatest,
Johnny Marr and
James, are co-headlining the Palace Theatre.
Fans of
The Smiths should already know Marr as their guitarist… but did you know that early in the Smith actually covered
James’ “What’s the World?”.
James, on the other hand, covered
Morrissey’s “We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful” as “
We Hate It When Our Friends Become So Stressful.” The story behind this is that Tim Booth claims that the song was about his band becoming successful, so it’s somewhat of a stab at Morrissey’s general direction. You can hear the cover on
YouTube.
This should be a wonderful show.
Johnny Marr at Varsity Theater (17 Sep 2018)
|
We last saw Johnny Marr in
Sep 2018 and wrote, “Godlike Genius Award winner Johnny Marr returned to the Varsity Theater on Monday night. He has a full backing band, which included bassist Iwan Gronow, drummer Jack Mitchell, and guitarist James Doviak. This current 2018 Call The Comet tour set is, by far, the best set yet. This is mostly thanks to some classic The Smiths songs, and a pair of Electronic songs! ”
