Kicking off the exhibit is the Girlhood Exhibit Opening event, with FINICK. Also, outside were sports-orientated teams: Washington Athletics Girls Soccer, MN Girls Baseball Association, and Twin Cities Native Lacrosse.
On the third floor, it started off with robotics with Cass Lake-Bena Girls Robotics, and then ending with two dance presentations: Sansei Yonsei Kai and Yackel Dance Studio.
The Sansei Yonsei Kai dance group is tailored to traditional Japanese dance, as well as more J-Pop and Anime-inspired dance formation. They ended their presentation asking the audience to join them on the dancefloor… which turned out to be a little too chaotic for my taste.
Yackel Dance Studio is based out of Woodbury and have been around for over 50 years. They teach a variety of dance for ages as young as 3 to 18 years old. They had two type of dance formation as far as I can tell: soloist and dance troop. I prefer the large dance group, especially if everyone is perfectly in sync and rhythm.
FINICK as the only live music guest. Her set is different from show to show, but she usually does “Rain Falls” and her sea-song “Captain Tory” (from the latest two-track single).
Her forthcoming single, “Selfish” is electric, but without a full band, she’s doing it acoustic style. The single is coming out October 4, 2024.
And as with all of her shows, she always ends with “Third Time’s the Charm” (watch the video), however due to an audience’s request, she played “Meant to Be”.
