Their website boasts over 275 retro and modern arcade games, pinball machines, fighting games, and much more! Admission fee is $20 (there is a $5 discount if you’re under 11 or over 65), but that gets you access to unlimited plays on all the arcade machines. It is a great price if you’re planning on staying there for a few hours or committed to trying out every cabinet.
When I was in high school, my friend Dan Davis and I would go to the local arcade in Clovis (a nearby town). An hour or two before the arcade was opened to the public, they had a special deal: for $5 you had access to play any machine. Basically, this was how we spent our Saturday or Sunday mornings.
Over the years, when video game consoles became more common, you saw less arcade cabinets in the wild. So, it was a really nice to see so many cabinets and pinball machines in one spacious location. The first time you see it, it’s truly impressive.
Personally speaking, it’s the pinball machines that were the real draw for me. Starcade must have at least 40 pinball machines. They’re coin-operated and costs $1 to play or $2 for 3 plays. That’s quite a good bargain, considering that I’ve paid more to play at other locations.
I tried out all the new Stern machines, including John Wick (released May 2024) and Foo Fighters (February 2023). When we have more time, I’d like to return and try out some of the older machines to see how they compare to the new machines. I saw a Judge Dredd machine from 1993, but it wasn’t working at the time (not plugged in?)… I would’ve loved to try that one out.
