King Buzzo & Trevor Dunn at Turf Club (22 Jun
2020) (Cancelled)
|
Officially, the band is called
King Dunn, on their “King Dunn Tour,” but for clarity, the show is billed as King Buzzo & Trevor Dunn. This is not to be confused with
Melvins Lite, which is a trio featuring King Buzzo, Dale Crover, and Trevor Dunn. Personally speaking, they should just call this Melvins with Dunn, but that might even be more confusing.
Anyway, originally, the King Dunn duo was meant to come to the Turf Club in 2020, but the pandemic forced the cancellation… so this King Dunn show was literally years in the making.
As predicted, the two play mostly Melvins and King Buzzo’s songs on their setlist. There were a couple of original King Dunn songs, sandwiched in the middle of their set.
Opening the show was
JD Pinkus, member of
Butthole Surfers. He had much of the adult sense of humor as the Butthole Surfer, as he sings next to a giant inflatable pair of pears. It’s in reference to his album
Grow A Pear, which is out now.
Pinkus started and ended his set with a devil voice modulator and a loop machine. Between songs he tells these awfully bad jokes, like dedicating a song to “the oldest chick I ever had sex with” (his wife).
His song finale was “a cover of a song that I wrote” called “Bride of Crankenstein” by the Melvins.
