“The Fumbling Towards Ecstasy 30th Anniversary Tour" began in late May in Seattle and ends on July 6 in Houston, so KC is fortunate to get an early date and outdoors too (fingers crossed for good weather). “It’s like seven weeks long and I’m so excited. WEDNESDAY JUNE 12
Chris Stapleton w/ Marcus King, Allen Stone, June 12, T-Mobile Center, $69.75-$159.75
Chris Stapleton continues his “All-American Road Show” tour with special guests on the tour, which is produced by Live Nation, Marcus King, and Allen Stone for this KC stop.
The 8x Grammy, 15x CMA and 15x ACM Award-winner, released his new album, Higher, last November on Mercury Nashville. Produced by Dave Cobb, Morgane Stapleton and Chris Stapleton, the album showcases his voice and musical versatility across 14 songs that defy any one genre.
Of lead single “White Horse,” Billboard praises it as “a hell-raising anthem, meant to be blared with windows down and enjoyed with ears ringing. ‘White Horse’ finds Stapleton pairing an outlaw swagger with some heaven-scraping vocals, going for the gusto throughout the chorus to try and match the guitar snarl.” Furthermore, Consequence declares, “‘White Horse’ certainly suggests that Stapleton is leaning into his strengths as a cross-genre act.”
Baroness w Portrayal of Guilt, Filth is Eternal, May 12, The Bottleneck-Lawrence, $32-$35
Baroness is back out on tour throughout the U.S. in support of last year’s album STONE and will also feature Portrayal of Guilt, and Filth Is Eternal. We caught the hard rock band live, two years ago at this same venue and they blend all kinds of sub genres of hard rock, but it’s all head-banging-ly good.
THURSDAY JUNE 13
The Chameleons, June 13, recordBar, $42.49
UPDATE: Vehicle breakdown- Show Postponed until November 4th
Some of the old, some of the new-- the iconic post-punk band The Chameleons have returned with a brand-new three-song EP, “Where Are You?”, just out now via Metropolis Records and represents their first new studio recordings in over two decades. This is all a follow-up to last year’s return to live stages alongside The Mission (UK), which we we saddened to miss at recordBar, but are glad there’s another chance to see the band play live in the heartland. “It’s exciting to finally be putting out fresh Chameleons material for the first time in over twenty years, although initially I found it quite daunting,” admits vocalist/bassist Mark Burgess, “The question about new music is one I had been asked the most from people coming to the shows, a great many of whom weren’t even born when those records were originally made but nevertheless were excited and inspired by the music enough to catch multiple shows on multiple tours.”
Coupled with the shimmery “Endlessly Falling” and the acoustic ballad “Forever,” the “Where Are You?” EP is a slight taste of an upcoming album titled Arctic Moon planned for later 2024. “At this moment, we’re halfway through, but already everyone in the band is excited by what they’re hearing,” he says. “We’ve managed to transcend the confines of our own legacy and finally forge something fresh.”
Also in the live show, the band will be celebrating their 1986 breakthrough album Strange Times, which spawned the singles “Tears” and “Swamp Thing.” “I initially wasn’t a huge fan of album performance tours,” Burgess admits. “I believed instead that they ought to have been confined to one-off, special events. Performing Strange Times changed my mind,” he says. “For one thing, the album marked a significant evolution by the band both in its sound and the maturity of the writing. Secondly, it’s a challenging album to perform live and thus, it’s much more fun to play.”
Say Anything, June 13, Uptown, $33-$60
Say Anything are on a 2024 tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album, …Is a Real Boy. The record, which includes the single “Alive With the Glory of Love,” is considered a classic from the 2000s era of pop-punk. In 2019, bandleader Max Bemix said that the band was “retiring.” Nevertheless, Say Anything released the single “Psyche!” back in April, marking their first new material since they put out the album Oliver Appropriate in 2019. The band has also performed a handful of shows in 2023.
Niko Moon, June 13, KC LIVE! Sold Out
The buzzing country artist has been having a good time since breaking out as a solo act in 2019, after being a member for a couple of years of Sir Rosevelt alongside fellow artists Zac Brown and Ben Simonetti. His first single “Good Time” went No. 1 on country radio and his other hits continue to climb the charts, bringing a positive vibes message to all that listen.
Beyond singing, Moon has written eight No. 1 songs and over 40 major record label tracks for artists such as Morgan Wallen, Avicii, Dierks Bentley, Pitbull, Zac Brown Band, Rascal Flatts and more. He also co-produced the Zac Brown Band albums, Jekyll+Hyde and Welcome Home, and was recently named a SESAC country songwriter of the year.
