Camera Obscura (26 July 2014)

With the long passage of time, I’m happy to report that they played a mix of old favorites (like “Teenager”), hits (“Lloyd, I'm Ready to Be Heartbroken”), and the rarely heard live version of “Eighties Fan”. I’ve seen the group four times, and they’ve never really play songs from their debut album… so it’s exciting to hear my personal favorite song played live. The song is slow, but sweet, and heartbreaking when you hear Tracyanne sings
You say your life will be the death of you
Tell me, do you wash your hair in honeydew?
And long for all of them to fall in love with you
But they never do
Speaking of which, one of the best things about the group is that Tracyanne has such a sadness in her when she sings. You always believe what she has to say and she sings from her heart.
Based on hearing the new songs from their latest album Look to the East, Look to the West, Camera Obscura hasn’t change from their tried-and-true formula of writing great lyrics with that indiepop sound that we love so much.
Hopefully, it won’t take another decade for the band to come back.
Opening the show was Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Terry Price. He is originally from Nashville (even has a song called “When I Think Of Tennessee”), but relocated to Los Angeles and plays under his stagename Photo Ops.
Photo Ops previously opened for Camera Obscura in 2013 so he has a history with the band. The sad thing about this current tour is that Price’s car was stolen when they played Montreal, Canada (three days after the start of the tour!)
His life, and his entire tour merchandise was in his car, so he basically had nothing with him. I’m assuming even his guitar was on loan. Camera Obscura was nice enough to let him finish the tour by making room for him on their tour bus.
