Their music is punk/60s rock (inspired by The Kinks and Grand Funk Railroad), but also influenced by psychedelic rock of Brian Jonestown Massacre and King Gizzard.
Their debut album Here’s the Thing came out in April 2023, and their latest The Thing Is came out February 2024… and, I hate to say it, but here’s the thing… While it’s punny and all in good fun, I feel the band’s name might hinder the band from becoming a house hold name. Seriously, try searching “the Thing in Minneapolis”… it’s hard to find what you’re looking for. Searching The Thing band will let you know there are several bands called The Thing, including a jazz trio and an acid rock band from New Jersey.
Otherwise, this is a high energy punk-ish 60s rock band.
Speaking of high energy, Milwaukee’s Diet Lite (Evan Marsalli, Kelson Kuzdas & Max Niemann) was truly a sweat and tear trio. It’s explosive garage rock and I can tell you it is hard to maintain such high energy throughout their 30-min set. That’s why it made total sense that the guitarist and bassist switch roles mid-set.
They were a lot of fun to watch and listen to, and you can tell they were giving it their all in their performance. Would enjoy seeing this band again in the near future.
Diet Lite’s album Into The Pudding came out last year.

Their set is similar/same from the last time we saw them, and, yes, their tunes are upbeat and would be perfect for a summer soundtrack.
