Real Estate, the New Jersey band, played a show at the Fine Line Music Cafe in Minneapolis last night, a venue at which they had previously headlined in 2014, 2017, and 2018. The latter show had been their last appearance in the Twin Cities.
We saw them at their last appearance in June 2018 and said, “New Jersey’s Real Estate (singer/guitarist Martin Courtney IV, bassist Alex Bleeker, drummer Jackson Pollis, keyboard Matt Kallman, and guitarist Julian Lynch) closed out the show. Bassist Alex Bleeker mentioned on stage that this was the band’s first time playing the First Avenue mainroom.”
Marina Allen, a singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles, opened the show, her first time playing the Twin Cities. Performing with her band she played a half hour set, playing a few songs from her previous albums, and then several from her upcoming album, Eight Pointed Star.
Real Estate played for 80 minutes, including a two-song encore. The set included many of their most loved songs from their 15 years of album releases, and featured songs from their new album, Daniel. It seemed obvious how happy the audience was to have Real Estate back in town after a six-year hiatus, and that enthusiasm was clearly reciprocated by the band.
