Originally, the show was announced to have Population II (singer/drummer Pierre-Luc Gratton, guitarist/keyboardist Tristan Lacombe, and bassist Sébastien Provençal) as support act… but unfortunately, due to Visas issues, the Canadian band had to cancel their appearances in America. The band will, however, still be able to support Meatbodies on their Toronto appearance at the Garrison on April 23rd. Population II’s latest Serpent Échelle EP is out now via Bonsound.
Last-minute replacement local trio Small Animal Hospital opened the show. They were pretty happy to play their loud, post-hardcore music with sweat and tear.
It’s been a few years since we last saw California’s Meatbodies. Back then, they were still known as Chad and the Meatbodies (named after band leader Chad Ubovich).

The 7th Street Entry show was full of older stoner music fans. Many of them were in large groups of friends… indicating to me that Meatbodies’ music was a communion/sharing effort.
Vocal duties were shared by between Chad and Casey Hanson. Bassist Noah Guevara can be seen bopping back and forth, and drummer Dylan Fujioka kept the beat going.
The band played music from the new album Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom, which Chad described as a more serious album, examining themes of love and loss, escapism, defeatism, hedonism, psychedelics and much more.
