Aptly described as “a ragtag collection of hippies, bohemians, and musicians of no fixed ambition,” the Ozark Mountain Daredevils always have been indefinable in terms of music genres, producing sounds of country-rock and electric bluegrass all on the same record, writing lyrics both whimsical and poetic, with spirited singing harmonies.
Founded in Springfield, MO in 1971, the band initially called themselves the Family Tree before finally settling on the moniker of Cosmic Corncob & His Amazing Ozark Mountain Daredevils. The band has released eight studio albums (in addition to live and compilation albums) and hit singles “If You Wanna Get to Heaven” in 1974 and “Jackie Blue” (which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100) in 1975. Members Lars Pruitt (lead vocal), Jake Felstow (drums), Zach Beinlich (bass), and Seth Blum (guitar) officially formed Yam Haus in 2017 and launched their first single, West Coast, in April 2018 which garnered over 100,000 streams within the first week of its release.

“Lobes,” the band’s eighth studio album, is described as their synthiest, electronic beatiest collection yet. “Finally — FINALLY — we get to tour the United States again,” exclaims guitarist/vocalist Keith Murray. “It’s been too long, and we’ve been aching for it.” Sean McVerry to open.
Grupo Frontera, Nov. 12, Midland. $53-$123
Música Mexicana continues its global ascent, thanks in large part to bands, such as this rising norteño outfit. MONDAY NOVEMBER 13
The Head and the Heart w/ Yoke Lore, Nov 13, Liberty Hall-Lawrence, (sold out)
After we saw the Seattle folk rock band earlier this summer in Kansas City with The Revivalists, they co-headlined with Father John Misty and are wrapping up the year with a headlining tour that brings them to Lawrence., keeping t a steady presence on the touring circuit since the 2022 release of their reflective fifth studio album, Every Shade of Blue.
The Seattle-based band formed in 2009 and inked a deal with Sub Pop Records just months later. Their 2010 self-titled debut album was well received by fans and critics, and the band has been one of our favorites for the last decade.
The Struts w Mac Saturn, Nov 13, the Truman, $32.50-$60
The UK rock band has returned as part of their “Remember the Name Tour” and recently released a new EP, Unplugged at EastWest, which is both a live album and video set recorded with Taylor Guitars. The four-song EP includes unplugged versions of their hit single “Fallin’ With Me,” as well as covers of Michael Jackson’s “Stranger In Moscow” and Oasis’ “Supersonic,” plus a full-length version of “Pretty Vicious.” The latter was uploaded to TikTok in 2021 and garnered 14 million views, making it a viral sensation.
The new full length is the just-out 11 track record called Pretty Vicious (via Big Machine/John Varvatos Records) so is getting a good promotional push with singer Luke Spiller calling it the album everyone has wanted. They’re at their best live though, as we saw back in 2016 in Minneapolis.
Henry Rollins, Nov 13, The Madrid, $40
Continuing his “Good to See You" spoken-word tour, the punk rock icon "faithfully recounts the events of his life in the brief pre-COVID period since the last tour and when things got even stranger over the last several months," according to a statement announcing the shows. "It's been an interesting time to say the least and he's got some great stories to tell."
In describing Rollins, the tendency is to try to squeeze as many labels as possible into a single sentence. Entertainment Weekly's list includes "Punk Rock icon. Spoken word poet. Actor. Author. DJ. Is there anything this guy can't do?" TV Guide has more concisely called him a "Renaissance Man" but if Rollins could be reduced to a single word, that word would undoubtedly be "workaholic."
