Mid-way through the month and things are still busy, though nights are getting chillier and it’s getting dark sooner. Instead of obsessing every area “Swelce” appearance, go check out a live show instead!
Let’s take look at the Kansas City / Lawrence KS metro musical happenings for the upcoming week, from October 16th-19th.

TUESDAY OCTOBER 17
Tom Odell, Oct. 17, The Truman. $28,
The UK piano-based singer-songwriter has his sixth studio album, Black Friday, due out on January 26 as the follow-up to 2022's 'Best Day Of My Life' but fans attending the live shows, should get an early peek, including the title track and a new acoustic song called “Somebody Else”. Maybe you just caught him on Late Night with Seth Myers the other night as well. We last saw him live in 2019 in Minneapolis.
Odell says of the new record, "I recorded these songs between last winter and the spring of this year. I tried to leave them as ‘unproduced’ as possible with the hope that they would be the truest reflection of how I felt in that time. These songs mean a lot to me, and I can’t wait for you to hear them."
Toronto quartet Jane’s Party is also a special guest on this tour. The indie group’s EP The Best of Wild in the Woods Vol. 1 is out next month featuring new single, “Dirty Work (feat. Danica)”, a cover of Steely Dan’s 1972 seminal track.
Goblin, Liberty Hall, $30-$60
The longtime and legendary Italian progressive band makes a rare area appearance- Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin (which features members of horror film theme cover group Daemonia).has a new 35-date tour that will see the band perform the score to Dario Argento’s Demons alongside a screening of the film. Each show will also feature a “best of” set, so a movie and a rock show for a low price, and an A/V experience that shouldn’t be missed.
Ballyhoo! with Jimmie's Chicken Shack, Oct 17, Knuckleheads, $18
Shellshock is the name of the tour and also the newest self-produced album from the Maryland surf rockers, who also features collaborators The Elovators, Hirie, Iya Terra, Tropidelic, Bumpin Uglies and Kyle Smith, on the new record.
Fellow Maryland friends Jimmie’s Chicken Shack led by Jimi Haha, the band named after a place in Harlem and is known best for their single, “High.” The band is out in support of last year’s 2econds album and features a partial reunion of the original lineup and guitarist Island Styles should be back, if finished final touring with Candlebox.
Holy Fawn, Caracara, Oct 17, recordBar, $16
After opening on Thrice’s 20th anniversary tour, the Phoenix band is out in support of last year’s Dimensional Bleed, with support from indie-emo band Caracara, supporting last year’s New Preoccupations.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 18

The Louisiana rapper is out on his “Only The Generals” tour with guests BigXthaPlug and DJ Chose. His previously released single and visual, “Do It Again” and more recent song, "I Don't Apologize" have made waves, but not as much as him spitting down a fan's mouth at a recent show. Gates kicked the year off with the single and video “Breakfast” and the re-release of his debut mixtape “The Luca Brasi Story (A Decade of Brasi)” to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the project.
THURSDAY OCTOBER 19
