Nashville-born/Alabama-raised vocalist and songwriter Jessie Murph brought her massive headlining The Cowboys and Angels global tour to the sold-out First Avenue, in Minneapolis, on Friday the 13th.
Opening the show was Chicago’s Henry Verus. The singer his riding high on his breakout single “Your Guilty Pleasure”, which was one of 2021’s most listened to songs on TikTok.
Henry Verus, formerly known as Henry Francis, mentioned that the first he wrote, in his parents’ basement, was called “Alone”.
He played some new songs; they’re not released yet. The song has a repeated lyrics of “Start of Something”, so expect a song title similar to that.
Verus took off his shirt to reveal a tank top and all the girls swoon. By the time he took off his top, at the end of his 30-min set, and bear his shirtless chest, it was all young girls screaming.
Jessie Murph, having previously sold out the Fine Line earlier in March 2023, Murph is back selling out a much larger venue at First Avenue. We previously wrote, “I read a review of Jessie Murph’s sold out show at The Basement East in Nashville. It seems there were not enough tickets even for those who traveled seven hours to see her. For the Fine Line show I decided to show up early, but an hour before wasn’t nearly enough as the line snaked around the corner. Needless to say the venue was packed before I got through the doors.”
Like the previous show, everyone with a cellphone (which is everybody) in the audience held up their phone to snap a picture of Jessie Murph as she came out singing. Her fans loved and scream and claps to everything Murph does on stage.
She saved her two biggest 2023 hits near the end, with “Wild Ones” and “Heartbroken” saved as the penultimate and finale songs. “Heartbroken” was the song of the summer, thanks to help from rapper Polo G and DJ Diplo.
