Bringing that Mexican-style wrestling to the Twin Cities is a small independent company called Rudos Promotions, booking by Jesus De La Torre, in their so-called Rudos Arena, which is basically within the Waterbury Studios room with a center wrestling ring. They put together a wrestling show once a month.
We attended their October show, which took place on Saturday, October 14th. Introductions and announcements were made by Mason Butler in English. There was also Spanish introductions, which we could not understand.
With a lot of these Mexican wrestling, they have a three-way match, called “trios”. We had two trios as warm-up matches before the main event: starting with a three-way match, followed by a tag-team trios.
The first match may be all local wrestlers, with Shay Diesel as winner… retaining his title of Intercontinental Champion.
Next up, was Zakk Neo vs Matthias. This fight somehow involves Neo’s dog (what was the dog doing there?) and seems a little ridiculous. Maybe it was improvised, but man, that’s just silly. Hey, I would throw in the fight if my dog’s life was in danger too.
Freakshow Cho vs X, was a good standard match. Cho had a great entrance, coming out in a creepy old hag costume. This seem more traditional American wrestling style.
After a brief intermission, there was a tagteam trios features tagteam Jinn Hallos and Kanan Korus, who immediately took off their masks and stopped on them (indicating that they are the bad guys). They were fighting against tagteam Martial Artist and Nick Pride and tagteam Muerto Gonzalez and Celtic Wolf.
On any given night, this tagteam trios should have been the headlining match… but instead the main event was Blue Panther vs Super Astro Jr. Perhaps it was Blue Panther’s advance age (he’s 63), but they both had a helper wrestler, making it a tagteam match. The two assistants were and Zakk Neo (for team Super Astro Jr) and Apostol 13 (for team Blue Panther).
Both Blue Panther and Super Astro Jr are from Mexico, so it was a rare treat to get them this far north in Minnesota.
The main event was refereed by former wrestler Indio Mendoza, who was clearly on team Blue Panther.
It was a fun event, despite being such an unfair fight. Clearly, with Super Astro Jr (the son of Super Astro) making amazing high spinning jumps and signature move called “Tope de Reversa”… the referee Mendoza just wasn’t counting all the way to tres. He would just go, uno, dos… and stops. The audience was screaming, “Rapido! Rapido!” It was just fun.
In the end, yes, Super Astro Jr was declared the winner, after much back-and-forth.
As long as you enjoy wrestling, you don’t really need to understand Spanish to be entertained by a grand slam on the wrestling canvas. Plus, it’s a bonus if you have kids, if they are under the age of 10, they get in for free.
P.S. There was a delay in our show, as they were waiting for a few wrestlers to arrive in the venue. According to the announcer it was due to traffic and “the rain”, but from what I can put together, I believe we were missing a match of Swat Cat vs Crazy Tiger. They were advertised on the advance poster, but we never saw them.

if it's a square platform, why do they call it a ring?
