Billie Marten Setlist Read More

Opening the show was Olivia Kaplan (who would later join Billie Marten on stage as her guitarist). The Los Angeles singer/songwriter is having a good time traveling. She mentioned that she wrote a newish song (not on the album) while going from New York to Montreal and witnessing the orange sky.
All of Kaplan came from her experiences. She really started songwriting in 2000, when she moved to Los Angeles and started listening to Sheryl Crow and Elliot Smith.
Billie Marten is a woman in love, she asks “Anyone in love?”
Every note, every words, there is a hint of longing. From what I’ve gathered, listening to her talk, her love (Will Taylor of Flyte) was very far away. Of course, the longing and sadness could have something to do with her severe seasonal affective disorder (SAD).
Billie Marten has been writing music since she was 12, becoming famous on YouTube. At 15, she released her first EP, and a second EP a year later. Eventually, the BBC nominated her for the Sound of 2016 award.
As you can see from the setlist, a lot of songs from the new album, which she recorded entirely on tape in Somerset and Wales late last summer. The name of the album, Drop Cherries, is from a story she heard from a friend.
She ended her set with “La Lune”, followed by a quick double song encore of “Liquid Love” and “I Can't Get My Head Around You.”
Billie Marten’s new album Drop Cherries is out now on IMPERIAL Music.
