Opening the show was local vocalist/producer SYM1 (formerly known as Symone Smash It). She seemed to be really into anime, cyberpunk, and cosplay, as evident by her stage costume.
Half way into her 40-min set, featuring songs from All That U Want, SYM1 announced that she was “done being sad” and shifted to, “Now I wanna be mad.”
There’s so much going on with Let’s Eat Grandma. Since winning Q Awards’ “Album of the Year” for I’m All Ears, the band’s been super busy. The biggest news was that Rosa Walton’s song “I Really Want to Stay at Your House” was used for the hottest and poorly launched video game Cyberpunk 2077. The song would then go on to be prominently use in the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Of course, thanks to the popularity, they did play the song near the end of their set.

So luckily, the duo was committed to their USA tour, which started on November 1st at Washington, DC’s Union Stage. The group finally stopped by Minneapolis’ 7th Street Entry on Saturday night. We think that this is the group’s first time in Minneapolis, and we wanted to be there to check them out. The duo added a live drummer and guitarist (sometime on keys) to their live show, with Jenny sometime busting out the saxophone.
Just watching Rosa and Jenny on stage, you can tell they are long childhood friends. In fact, they met when they were four years old in Norwich.
Starting off with the new song from Two Ribbons, “Happy New Year”, the band went back to their most popular album I’m All Ears, for “Falling Into Me” and “Hot Pink”, which received positive approval from the audience.
There was a brief intermission in their set, where they played “Half Light” from a pre-recorded/pre-programmed recording, before they started up again with the title track from Two Ribbons.
Hopefully Let’s Eat Grandma will return to Minneapolis, at a warmer time, and hopefully they’ll play a bigger venue. If you get the chance, check out Let’s Eat Grandma if they are coming to your area. If you can’t see them live, perhaps check out the television show The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself and listen in for the soundtrack.
