Coming out November 4th, on UMC / Virgin Records, is Spiceworld 25, a 25th Anniversary celebration of the multi-million sophomore album (sold more than 14 million copies worldwide) by the biggest girl band of all time, the Spice Girls. The new double-CD, double-LP, double cassettes (yes, you heard right), will feature the original classic album, plus bonus tracks and B-Sides, along with previously unreleased live recordings from the Virgin Records archive.
The band said, “The ‘Spiceworld’ era was such a fun time for us; we’d just had a number one album with Spice, we were travelling all over the world and meeting our amazing fans, we released our second album AND we had our very own movie! Who would’ve thought it? It’s crazy to think that 25 years have passed.” The album came out at the height of `Spicemania’ and one month ahead of the all-girls band’s big screen debut film, Spice World: The Movie. The record spent almost one year in the Top 40 on the U.K. chart and had the #1 hit singles, “Spice Up Your Life,” “Too Much,” and “Viva Forever,” and fan-favorite “Stop.” Like many of the 14 million Spiceworld owners, such as myself, you’re probably not interested in owning the album again (especially since the Spice Girls re-released Spiceworld on vinyl in 2020). Instead, you should focus on the second, bonus CD, which includes a variety of mixes, B-Sides, demos, and live recordings. The recordings are from the soundboard mix, so they are broadcast-quality and sounds amazing. Much better than any bootlegs you may or may not have. Can’t decide which songs to put on? Try “Spice Girls Party Mix”, which is a nearly 15-minute medley of your favorite Spice Girls songs. For the diehard fans who has it all, there are a few live tracks exclusive to this release… but I believe the main attraction is the rare “Step To Me” (Demo Version), which is exclusive to Spiceworld 25. The Spiceworld 25 comes out November 4th, it is a perfect gift for yourself, or that special Spice Girl fan in your family. Photo: Christophe Gstalder
