London-based, New York City-rooted band Pretty Sick (singer/bassist Sabrina Fuentes, drummer Ava Kaufman, and guitarist Orazio Argentero from South London experimental outfit Paddywak) is currently touring in support of their debut album Makes Me Sick Makes Me Smile (Dirty Hit), headlining the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis.
Opening the show was local band Dad Bod (not to be confused with Salt Lake City’s Dad Bod). The Minneapolis-based band normally has Grace Baldwin for bass, but for the October 24th show, she was out celebrating her birthday. Instead, Emily Schoonover from Bugsy stepped in at the last minute. The rest of the band comprised of singer Callie Marino, guitarist Wilson Zellar, guitarist Noah Topliff, and drummer Alex Gray.
Highlight of their set was a cover of Coldplay’s “Yellow”. The stage’s lights were then turned to a yellow color. Yes, “it was all yellow!”
They ended their 35-min set with their debut single, “Rot” (which I misheard as “Rat” so it has a different meaning to me now).
The band is currently writing and recording their debut album on No Sleep Records. Their latest single, “4/19” is out now.
First night of the USA tour and it’s been unreal, according to Pretty Sick’s singer Sabrina Fuentes. First night of the tour and sometime it can be amateur hour, as bands are still working out their equipment and sometime they fell out of practice. That wasn’t the case with Pretty Sick… it is probably because a few nights earlier they were ending their long UK tour with Beabadoobee, and was probably used to the travel and playing live.
As you can see from the setlist, this is typical of a first tour for a debut album, the band played almost everything that they’ve written and recorded… which included songs from their 2016 self-released self-titled (including their first single “Warm Hands”) to 2020’s Deep Divine and 2021’s Come Down.
They ended their set with their second single, “Dumb”. Originally came out in 2018, it would later find itself re-released on Come Down.
