Preoccupations

Canada’s Preoccupations is back on tour in support of their fourth studio album Arrangements.
On the album release, vocalist Matt Flegel says “I’m certain that I’ve been writing about the same bleak things over and over again throughout the lifespan of Preoccupations. This time around the themes of isolation, anxiety, trepidation, imminent self-annihilation, fear of totalitarianism, and general malaise unintentionally all feel a little more relevant than they have in the past. I guess that’s not a great sign, but I think we’ve taken this culmination of dark things, and turned it into something that can happily be listened to loudly, and that is maybe even…fun?”
Cindy Lee to open.

FènixDion
with Kid Dakota and Goon Tribune
at 7th St Entry
first-avenue.com
Minneapolis-based band FènixDion will be releasing their debut album Sugar on October 21st. The record release party will take place on October 23rd at the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis.
You can hear their debut single, “Mama Say”, as well as “Morals Might Bite”, and others on the upcoming show.
The band is the brainchild of Keston Wright and drummer Sam Bramble, but when they play live, it’s a full band, featuring Atom Lee and Mitchell Johnson on electric guitars, bassist Gavin Taylor, and percussionist Nii Mensah.
Talking about the band’s name Keston explains. “That’s why I wanted to name the project FènixDion, because of the archetype of the Phoenix: burning away all that doesn't resonate within you, so you can be reborn into your truest self. I think a lot of people went through that in 2020, letting go of all the sh** that does not matter. So that's what I’m focusing on now: my truest self, moving forward, and trying to fly.”
Kid Dakota and Goon Tribune to open.

Palm Ghosts
with Muun Bato
at Mortimer’s
mortimersbar.com
Nashville’s Palm Ghosts (Benjamin Douglas on guitars and vocals, Walt Epting on drums, Joseph Lekkas on bass and vocals, and Jason Springman on guitar and vocals) is described as “the sound of an 80s prom in a war zone.” If that sounds like your cup of tea, then be sure to see them at Mortimer’s Bar in Minneapolis. Local band Muun Bato to open.
Additional details about the band: “Palm Ghosts has a long history, as Joe has carried the name since his Philly days when the project had an indie folk sound. But, it is the current iteration of the band that sounds more like a clap back to the sound for which Nashville is notorious. Embracing their 80’s idols, like New Order, The Cure, David Bowie, John Carpenter and even Divine, these Nashville transplants released 2018’s Architecture. With a steady stream of singles and EPs, the band has continued to write music that sums up the lot of their 80’s youth, but their most cohesive effort is now.”
Tour dates:
Oct 21 @ X Ray Arcade, Cudahy, WI
Oct 22 @ Fox River House , Appleton, WI
Oct 23 @ Mortimer's, Minneapolis, MN
Nov 26 @ The Cooperage , Milwaukee, WI
Nov 27 @ Golden Dagger , Chicago, IL
Nov 30 @ The 5 Spot, Nashville, TN
